Description
Keiichirō is a young Japanese man who lives alone, having become withdrawn from the world following a family tragedy. He used to play guitar in a band, but he stopped performing after his parents and younger sister were killed in a car accident while driving to one of his live shows. This event left him burdened with guilt and responsible for the loss of his family, causing him to retreat from his former passions and social connections. He is described as a person who, while kind and not fundamentally antisocial, generally keeps to himself, reflecting on the past in the quiet solitude of his home.

His personality is taciturn and reserved, a direct contrast to the energetic and excitable nature of the android he comes to care for. Despite his quiet and reclusive demeanor, he maintains a religious practice, praying regularly for his deceased family members. His motivation throughout the story is largely subconscious; he does not actively seek to change his situation. Initially, his actions are driven by a sense of aimless routine. His decision to take in a broken, outdated service android named Flower, whom he finds discarded in a trash heap, is not born from a grand plan but from a momentary impulse that slowly begins to alter the course of his life.

In the narrative, Keiichirō serves as one half of a minimalist cast, with his role centered on his growing relationship with Flower. He finds her in the rain, initially intending to dispose of her after a technician declares her irreparable. However, when she reactivates on her own and begins preparing breakfast for him, he chooses to let her stay, naming her after the sunflower she was holding. He becomes her caretaker and teacher, buying her a diary to help with her short-term memory loss and showing her the world around him. His primary relationship is solely with Flower, as the story focuses entirely on how their summer days together impact him.

The most significant development for Keiichirō is his emotional reawakening. Thanks to Flowers loyal and cheerful presence, he begins to emerge from his self-imposed prison. He tentatively attempts to pick up his guitar several times, an instrument he had abandoned after his familys death. Flower acts as his trigger to feel again, providing him with the emotional push he needed to finally begin singing and playing music once more. This marks his progression from a dreamless young man stuck in the past to someone who can look toward the future.

His only notable ability is his musical talent, specifically his skill as a guitarist and singer. While this talent is dormant for much of the story, it remains a core part of his identity. He does not possess any special physical or technological powers, as he is an ordinary human living in a world where advanced technology, such as helper androids, is commonplace.
