Description
Amino Makiho is the school nurse at the high school attached to the Yokota Air Base in 1966, where the story takes place. She is a middle-aged woman of stout build, with brown hair cut to around ear length and gray eyes. Her manner is meek and soft-spoken, and she is friendly enough to get along well with the students, although she receives little respect from the school's principal, who tends to dismiss her as just a nurse.

At the beginning of the story, Makiho is an ordinary woman carrying out her routine duties in the nurse's office. On the eve of the school's Halloween party, she becomes the accidental target of two Chiropterans, blood-drinking creatures disguised as the students Sharon and Linda. When Saya, a new transfer student who is secretly a vampire hunter, bursts into the office and kills Linda while wounding Sharon, Makiho is thrown into shock by the revelation that the two girls are monsters. Her initial motivation is simple survival, as she finds herself caught between the creatures and the mysterious girl who hunts them.

Despite her terror, Makiho regains her nerve and follows the wounded Sharon into a room full of costumed American dancers, where she witnesses Sharon transform into her monstrous form. Saya saves her from the creature, and the two flee together into a nearby motor pool, where the Chiropterans trap them. During the struggle, Makiho manages to save both herself and Saya from the burning jeep hangar, showing resourcefulness and presence of mind even though she has no combat training or special powers. Her role in the story is chiefly that of an ordinary civilian witness caught in extraordinary events, and her relationship with Saya develops from a brief, casual encounter into a shared ordeal in which the two depend on each other to survive.

Makiho has no supernatural abilities; she is a normal human who endures through luck, quick thinking, and determination. After the battle, she is recovered by Louis, one of Saya's government handlers, before local police can reach her. She is then questioned by government officials about what she saw, but because all evidence of the fighting has been covered up and both Saya and David have disappeared, she has nothing to prove her account. When the officials show her an old photograph of a girl who looks exactly like Saya, dated 1892 and labeled with the word "VAMPIRE," she is left with more questions than answers.

By the end of the story, Makiho has developed from a timid, shock-prone nurse into someone who actively pursues the truth and helps secure her own survival. She returns to the school and reflects that she never truly learned the full truth behind Saya and the Chiropterans, and she wonders whether Saya is still out there fighting them. She remains the only civilian who carries the memory of that night.
