TV-Series
Description
Ganji Nishimoto is a supporting character in School Rumble, known primarily as a student in Class 2-C. He is a large, heavyset young man with black hair and a placid facial expression, often shown with his eyes closed. His birthday is on November 1st. His family operates a DVD shop, and he is frequently associated with the adult section of this store, which serves as a source for some of his more notable collections.
Nishimoto is best known by his nickname, Buddha Nishimoto, a title earned through his gentle and seemingly compassionate personality, as well as his remarkable ability to fulfill the hopes and wishes of his male classmates. Despite his calm and mentor-like exterior, he is actually very shrewd, calculating, and cunning underneath. This combination of a warm demeanor and a secret stash of treasures, which are implied to be erotic materials, has made him deeply popular with many of the boys in his class, who look up to him as a leader. Indeed, he is the acknowledged ringleader of the self-proclaimed perverts in 2-C, and he leads a secret organization of male students devoted to gathering data on their female peers.
His motivations center on these clandestine activities and maintaining his influence among the male student body. He is less appreciated by the girls of the class, particularly Mai Otsuka, who has known him for a long time and is seemingly aware of his true nature. Unlike his amicable relationships with most boys, Nishimoto harbors misgivings about male students who actually have girlfriends. He is often seen in the company of his two frequent companions, Kentaro Nara and Jiro Yoshidayama, forming a trio of hopeless bachelors; together, they have even made vows about going through life without romantic experience. He is also notably the superior of the more overt pervert Kyosuke Imadori.
Within the story's setting, Nishimoto occupies the classroom seat directly in front of the teacher, a position known as the Box Seat that most students avoid. He cleverly arranged to switch seats with Tenma Tsukamoto under the pretense of having poor eyesight, tactically recognizing the advantage this location offers him, specifically for observing the teacher Itoko Osakabe. His development remains largely static, as he consistently serves as a source of comedic relief and a facilitator for the schemes of the male students. However, one notable event shows him breaking his arm while trying to catch falling shelves from his collection of videos. An alternate future storyline, School Rumble Z, depicts an older Nishimoto who has become extremely wealthy and the head of a large empire, using his resources to pursue political power. This version imagines him as a formidable antagonist whose ambitions are only thwarted by the intervention of his former classmates.
