TV-Series
Description
Hiroyoshi Asou is a supporting character in the second-year class 2-C, where he is often referred to as the dark horse of the class due to his quiet but capable nature. His family runs a ramen restaurant, and he demonstrates significant skill in Chinese cooking, which he puts to use while working a part-time job at a Chinese restaurant alongside his coworker Sarah Adiemus. He is an athletic student whose favorite sport is basketball, and he is considered strong enough to be slated as the next captain of the school's boys' basketball team; he also takes on the role of coaching the girls' team at the request of Satsuki Tawaraya.
Asou possesses a generally easygoing and coolheaded personality, which allows him to get along well with a wide circle of classmates, including friends like Fuyuki Takeichi and Kyousuke Imadori. His closest friendship is with Ryuuhei Suga, who often serves as his best friend and wingman, and the two are frequently seen together. Despite being reputed to be popular with girls, Asou does not actively show much interest in romance for most of the series. His primary motivations revolve around his athletic pursuits and his work, rather than driving the main romantic plots of the series. He serves as a reliable supporting character who uses his abilities to assist the main cast, particularly during sports-oriented storylines like the basketball arc.
His most significant narrative role comes through his developing relationship with Mikoto Suou. The two are initially paired together as a team during the kibasen contest, and their connection gradually deepens to the point where they go on several dates. The relationship progresses notably far, including an invitation for Asou to have a family dinner with Mikoto's parents. However, this romance does not last permanently, and the two eventually break up. In terms of abilities, Asou is an exceptionally fast runner, having won the 100-meter dash, and he also competed as a member of his class's relay team. His athleticism extends to hockey as well, and he is generally proficient at most sports he attempts.
