Description
Hiroyoshi Asou is a supporting character in Class 2-C, often referred to as the dark horse of his class due to his quiet yet significant presence. He first appears during a pool hockey match, where he teams up with the main character Kenji Harima. Asou is known for his reserved and cool-headed personality; he is not one to draw attention to himself and tends to keep his thoughts and feelings to himself. This understated demeanor, combined with his reliability and quiet competence, makes him quite popular among his female classmates, even though he does not actively seek this attention.

Asou is a highly gifted athlete whose abilities are on par with the series' more prominent male leads. His primary passion and skill lie in basketball, where he is a key player and the designated future captain of the school's boys' basketball team. His talent is recognized when he is asked by Satsuki Tawaraya to become the coach of the newly formed girls' basketball team, a role he accepts. Beyond basketball, Asou excels in a variety of sports, including track and field where he won the 100-meter dash, and hockey. Outside of school sports, he demonstrates a completely different but equally impressive ability in cooking, specializing in Chinese cuisine. He works part-time at a Chinese restaurant alongside Sarah Adiemus, and his own family runs a ramen shop, indicating a deep background in food service.

Asou’s role in the story is primarily that of a capable and supportive secondary character. He does not drive the main romantic plots but is often present to assist other characters, particularly during sports-related events and arcs. His most significant storyline involves his relationship with his classmate, Mikoto Suou. The two first interact as teammates in a competitive event and gradually grow closer. They eventually begin dating and go on several dates, with their relationship progressing to the point where Mikoto’s parents invite him for a family dinner. However, this romance is not permanent, and the two ultimately break up, though they remain good friends. His key relationship is with Ryuuhei Suga, who is depicted as his best friend and wingman; the two are frequently seen together.

Throughout the series, Asou shows little overt interest in pursuing romantic relationships, and he never expresses strong feelings for anyone besides Mikoto. He is also the object of unrequited affection from other female characters, including Satsuki Tawaraya and his co-worker Sarah Adiemus. His development is subtle; rather than undergoing a major personality change, he demonstrates a growing sense of responsibility, particularly in his role as a coach, and shows a willingness to be vulnerable in his brief romantic involvement with Mikoto. After their breakup, he moves on without significant drama, maintaining his characteristic calm and steadfast nature. His notable abilities are a combination of his elite-level basketball and track skills, his expertise in Chinese cooking, and his quietly dependable personality that earns the trust of his peers.
