Description
Balladbird Lee is a major antagonist and a member of the Big Four, the elite inner circle of the powerful syndicate Millennion. He serves as a spy and an executive, operating in the shadows to consolidate power for the organization and its rising leader, Harry MacDowell. Lee is a complex figure whose calm and diplomatic exterior masks a ruthless ambition and a deep-seated capacity for violence that grows more pronounced as the series progresses.

Lee grew up under difficult circumstances, including the murder of his father by his own older brother, Cannon Vulcan, an event that secretly affected him for years. He later joined Millennion, where he became close friends with Bob Poundmax and was introduced to Harry MacDowell. Lee shares a profound bond with Harry, being the first to join his quest to rise to the top of the organization. Unlike Harry’s more overt and aggressive ambition, Lee’s is quieter and more calculated, but equally resolute. He understands Harry better than most, recognizing that Harry’s expansive vision for the future surpasses his own more limited goals. Their partnership is cemented when Harry uncovers Lee’s betrayal to his brother Cannon Vulcan but chooses to spare him, offering instead a path to power that transcends Millennion’s traditional Code of Iron. Lee ultimately chooses Harry over his own blood, a decision that defines his future.

Lee’s most significant personal relationship is with his best friend, Bob Poundmax. His kindness and loyalty are almost exclusively reserved for Bob. When Bob suffers a cerebral thrombosis, Lee is so desperate to save him that he volunteers to be the first subject for a dangerous and experimental procedure called Superiorization, which transforms a human into a powerful but monstrous bio-weapon. This act demonstrates the depth of his devotion, even as the procedure contributes to his eventual psychological unraveling. Lee also maintains a calm, if distant, professional relationship with his other Big Four colleagues, including Bear Walken and the protagonist Brandon Heat, whom he believes to be a traitor.

Over the course of the story, Lee’s personality undergoes a dark transformation. Initially presented as suave, diplomatic, and secretive, he becomes increasingly sadistic and brutal. He secretly kills hundreds, perhaps thousands, of humans deemed too weak for conversion into Orgmen, viewing it as a necessary ritual to purge weakness for Harry’s new order. After Bob’s death at the hands of a resurrected Brandon, now known as Beyond the Grave, Lee’s composure shatters. Driven by grief and a thirst for revenge, he goes on a rampage, destroying his surroundings before ordering a manhunt. He personally kidnaps Mika Asagi, the daughter of Millennion’s former leader, brutally murdering her protectors and leaving the syndicate’s name scrawled in blood. He uses Mika as a hostage to lure Grave into a trap, revealing his willingness to use any method, no matter how cruel, to achieve his goal.

As a human, Balladbird Lee is a formidable fighter, wielding senbon, sharp needles with a ball in the middle, with deadly precision and superhuman speed. He is capable of incapacitating an opponent held at gunpoint, disappearing from their field of vision, and even splitting a speeding bullet in half mid-trajectory with his thrown blades. As a Superior, he transforms into a monstrous, agile creature. In this form, he sprouts four large, bladed, insect-like legs that grant him incredible mobility, allowing him to match the speed of a subway train. He can fire smaller blades from his sleeves as projectiles and use his skeletal appendages to impale or pin his enemies. This form is incredibly durable, rendering him impervious to standard and anti-Orgman bullets. However, his nimble and powerful form has a critical weakness to specially developed anti-Superiorization rounds, which shatter his body and revert him to his human state, leading to his final disintegration.
