Description
Mitsuomi Takayanagi is the president of the Executive Council at Toudou Academy and the head of the Takayanagi family, one of the twelve founding families with deep historical ties to the school. He is a tall, heavily muscled young man with short white hair and yellow eyes. As a third-year student and the top-ranked fighter in the school, Mitsuomi is a highly skilled and dedicated martial artist. He uses his position and authority to suppress other power users within the academy, maintaining order through a combination of force and intimidation. Many students fear him and view him as a tyrant, a perception he does little to dispel. He is willing to employ ruthless and underhanded tactics to eliminate any group that threatens his control or the established hierarchy.
Mitsuomi's motivations are rooted in a sense of duty and a desire to preserve stability, but his methods are often brutal. To keep his combat skills sharp, he frequently trains by fighting and killing bulls, preparing himself for the possibility of having to kill an opponent. His physical prowess is extraordinary, but he suffers from a heart condition that limits his ability to fight to a maximum of three minutes. During that brief window, however, almost no one can withstand his onslaught. He possesses a technique that greatly amplifies his attack and defense, but it places severe strain on his heart and could ultimately prove fatal over time.
His role in the story is that of a central antagonist and authority figure, standing in opposition to the Juken Club and its members. He was originally a founding member of the Juken Club alongside Shin Natsume, Maya Natsume, Bunshichi Tawara, and Kagesada Sugano, but his relationship with the group fractured after a tragic duel with Shin. During that fight, Mitsuomi was about to land a killing blow when Shin's former lover, Mana Kuzunoha, intervened. The ensuing chaos triggered Shin's dragon eyes, leading to a devastating attack that struck Mitsuomi and inadvertently mortally wounded Mana. Shin, consumed by grief, then killed himself alongside Mana. Although Mitsuomi did not directly cause Shin's death, Maya Natsume blames him for the loss of her brother, and their relationship has been defined by resentment and unresolved feelings ever since. Mitsuomi still harbors love for Maya, even as their disagreements persist.
Key relationships shape his character. His younger brother, Masataka Takayanagi, is a student at the same school, but the two are not on good terms; Mitsuomi's distant and controlling demeanor creates tension between them. Bunshichi Tawara was once his closest friend and fellow founding member of the Juken Club, but their paths diverged as Mitsuomi took on the role of enforcer. His loyalty to Sohaku Kago and the larger web of the founding families further complicates his allegiances, as the members of the F group answer to Sohaku rather than directly to Mitsuomi.
Over the course of the story, Mitsuomi's development is tied to the burdens of leadership, his deteriorating health, and his internal conflict between his feelings for Maya and his commitment to his duties. He remains a formidable and calculating figure, whose strength and unyielding resolve make him a constant threat to anyone who challenges the order he upholds.
