Description
Asami Igarashi is a young girl who becomes an aspiring member of the Danger Service Agency. She is a sixth-grade elementary school student who faces significant hardship in her daily life, frequently becoming the target of bullying by her classmates who taunt her and steal her money. This mistreatment is compounded by her parents' constant absence due to work obligations, which leaves her alone at home in the evenings and contributes to a sense of isolation, resulting in her having few friends.
Shy, timid, and deeply insecure, Asami initially possesses very low self-esteem and a passive nature, having largely given up on herself due to her circumstances. Her life takes a dramatic turn when she becomes trapped in an abandoned building during a battle between the DSA and a rival group known as Black Scissors. During this dangerous incident, she witnesses the combat skills and self-confidence of Mikura Suzuki, one of the agency's primary operatives. Fascinated by Mikura's every move, Asami finds a powerful source of inspiration and becomes determined to change her own life.
Motivated by a deep desire to become strong like her newfound hero, Asami begins to visit the DSA headquarters regularly, much to the dismay of the agency's cynical leader, Kenichi Kurokawa. She sees Mikura as a master and wishes for the older woman to teach her how to be more confident and capable. Her role in the story is that of a young observer and witness to the agency's dangerous work, and she represents the element of personal growth amidst the team's often chaotic and life-threatening missions. Her character development is a notable focus, as she transitions from a helpless victim into someone actively seeking to reform herself and face her fears.
Asami's key relationships are centered on the members of the DSA. Her admiration for Mikura is the primary catalyst for her actions, as she sees the older woman as the ideal of strength to which she aspires. Her persistence in hanging around the agency creates a dynamic with Kurokawa, who is initially resistant to her presence. She also interacts with the team's technical expert, Tomohisa Harada, who is involved in her rescue and subsequent training. Over the course of the series, Asami is involved in an experiment that helps her overcome some of her fears, and she begins learning how to handle a weapon, marking tangible progress in her quest to become stronger. While initially possessing no combat skills and having a reputation for being clumsy, her notable ability lies in her capacity for change and her awakening determination to become a more confident and capable individual, a goal that places her on a path toward potentially becoming a DSA agent herself.
