OVA
Description
Mitsuhide Rōen is a main character in the story of Akagami no Shirayuki-hime, including the OVA Nandemonai Takaramono, Kono Page. He is one of the two closest aides to Prince Zen Wistaria of Clarines, serving as a personal guard and trusted companion. He was originally a swordsman from the Sereg Knight Circle and first entered the service of the royal family at the age of seventeen, when Crown Prince Izana assigned him to watch over Zen. Though Mitsuhide had initially wished to serve Izana directly, the first prince instead placed him with Zen, and while their relationship started off rocky, it quickly grew into a deep friendship and unwavering loyalty.
Mitsuhide is known for his outgoing, honest, and straightforward personality. He is genuinely warm-hearted and often described as a gentleman, though he is also easily flustered, especially when teased by Zen, Kiki, or Obi. He possesses a strong sense of duty and is extremely protective of Zen, almost in a parental manner, frequently worrying about his safety and well-being. His protective nature was noted by his fellow aide Kiki, who once described him as overly protective toward Zen. Despite his serious responsibilities, Mitsuhide enjoys friendly banter with Zen and maintains a close, easygoing rapport with him.
His motivations are rooted in loyalty and a desire to support Zen in becoming a capable and just ruler. He takes his role as a retainer seriously and is willing to put himself in harm's way to protect his prince and friends. Over the course of the story, Mitsuhide's development involves deepening his bonds with Zen and the others, including Shirayuki, whom he comes to respect and watch over as part of the prince's inner circle. The special chapter adapted in the OVA, Hajimari no Zen & Mitsuhide & Kiki, explores the origins of his partnership with Zen and Kiki, shedding light on how their trio first formed.
Mitsuhide is a highly skilled swordsman, having trained in the Sereg Knight Circle. He is physically imposing and capable in combat, often serving as a frontline defender. Beyond his martial abilities, he is also perceptive and level-headed, able to assess situations quickly and act as a steadying presence. His keen sense of responsibility and his ability to offer both strategic advice and emotional support make him an indispensable member of Zen's retinue. Mitsuhide shares a particularly close partnership with Kiki Seiran, the other aide to Zen; they work together seamlessly and have a mutual respect that hints at a deeper, though understated, relationship. He also gets along well with Obi and other members of the court, known for his approachable and amiable nature.
