Description
Isabel Neville, daughter of Richard Neville, Earl of Warwick (the "Kingmaker") and elder sister of Anne Neville, possessed brown eyes and long, wavy brown hair. Characterized by ambition, she aspired to marry a prominent lord for love, honor, and wealth, ambitions that intensified after her marriage.
At a banquet, she expressed a preference for Edward of York while also acknowledging George of York's handsomeness, though she considered George less intelligent; Edward humorously deflected her interest. Isabel eventually married George, Duke of Clarence. Their marriage produced children, who died after being given poisoned medicine administered by Jane Shore, marking a profound tragedy.
Isabel died on December 22, 1476, impliedly from illness or childbirth complications shortly after the birth of her son, Richard. Following her death, George accused lady-in-waiting Ankarette Twynyho of poisoning Isabel, leading to Ankarette's execution; this accusation was later pardoned. Isabel was buried at Tewkesbury Abbey. Her story encompasses ambition, marital alliances, and personal tragedy within the Wars of the Roses.
