Description
Mermaidyn is a water-attributed Classic Yo-kai of the Slippery tribe, first introduced in Yo-kai Watch 2. She is depicted as a half-girl, half-fish creature with a gentle, curious demeanor and a notably lovely singing voice. Her appearance is inspired by traditional merfolk, and she possesses a strong fascination with the world on land, which drives her exploratory behavior.

Her personality is defined by this curiosity; she is eager to learn about terrestrial life and often observes humans and other Yo-kai with wonder. This inquisitiveness is her primary motivation, leading her to befriend those who show kindness to her. In battle, she relies on her water-based abilities, including Tail Slap as a physical attack and Rapids as a water technique. Her Soultimate Move, Beach Wave, summons a powerful wave that crashes into all enemies. Mermaidyn’s skill, Saintly Scales, renders her immune to being Inspirited by opponents. She also possesses the Inspirit Rejuvenate, which slowly restores the health of an ally.

Mermaidyn plays a supporting role in the story, primarily as a recruit able Yo-kai that can be befriended through a quest titled Find Mermaidyn! She is also a key component needed to unlock the Yo-kai Spoilerina in Yo-kai Watch 2 and Yo-kai Watch: Wibble Wobble. Her evolutionary path branches: when fused with a Mermaid Pearl, she transforms into Mermadonna, and when fused with an Essence of Evil, she becomes Scaremaiden. In later series entries such as Yo-kai Watch!, her tribe classification shifts to Onechanside of the Omamori tribe. Her development is largely tied to these evolutions, which alter her appearance and abilities while retaining her core water affinity. Mermaidyn does not appear in the first Yo-kai Watch game but is a recurring presence from the second game onward.
