Description
Cantonio is a Yo-kai from the Yo-kai Watch franchise, belonging to the E rank and the Siniestra (Mysterious) tribe. His character is a direct reference to the Japanese urban legend of the Jinmenken, a creature described as a dog with a human face that is said to appear on roads and in cities late at night.

Prior to becoming a Yo-kai, Cantonio was a normal human man. His transformation occurred after a fatal accident in which a large wooden board fell on him and a brown poodle he was near one night.

In terms of appearance, Cantonio is a dog with a beige, human-like face and brown fur. He has a green swirl pattern on his head and another on his tail, along with small paws that feature pads similar to those of a poodle. He is distinguished by his black plastic glasses, a reddish stripe across his face, and a partially closed left eye.

The personality of Cantonio is defined by a deep sense of regret and incompetence. He laments his afterlife because, despite being a dog, he is still treated like a human. He suffers from very low self-esteem and is portrayed as extremely inept. His attempts to pursue hobbies like photography and ceramics typically fail because they involve breaking into studios or shops to take credit for the work of others, for which the police then scold him. A significant driving force for his poor decision-making is his lecherous nature, with his lust for women often being his primary motivation.

Cantonio frequently forgets that he is a Yo-kai and is unable to perform basic supernatural abilities, such as becoming invisible to humans. He often fears being killed in dangerous incidents, seemingly forgetting that he is already dead. Despite his human-like face and personality, he is still beholden to his canine instincts, including an inability to stop himself from digging holes in gardens, urinating on telephone poles, howling at the moon, and stealing food from plates.

Cantonio possesses a peculiar ability to resist the powers of certain other Yo-kai, though this trait generally makes him the target of their jokes rather than providing any real advantage. For instance, the Yo-kai Komemo is unable to steal his memories because they are apparently so horrible. Similarly, Pufipatitas cannot use its power to make him smile cutely, as he is considered too ugly, and Paupermán failed to inspire him because, in its own words, he was already at the maximum level of patheticness. In the Yo-kai Watch manga, Cantonio has the ability to transform other beings into human-faced dogs like himself by biting them.

Within the Yo-kai Watch games, Cantonio has a defined evolution path. In the first game, he can evolve into Multiniche when fused with another Cantonio. Starting from Yo-kai Watch 2, this evolution occurs simply by reaching level 22.
