Description
Edward Archer, often called Eddie, is a friend and classmate of Nate, Bear, and Katie at Springdale Elementary School. Known in Japanese as Kanchi Imada, he is a recurring character throughout the Yo-kai Watch series, including the video games and anime. His typical appearance consists of unkempt brown hair, high-placed eyebrows, and relaxed, sleepy-looking eyes. He is generally depicted as shorter than his friends Nate and Bear. Eddie is almost always seen wearing a long or short green jacket with two orange patches on the sleeves, a white collared shirt over a blue undershirt, rolled-up capris or jeans, and blue shoes with a white trim. His signature accessory is a pair of orange headphones that match the patches on his sleeves.

Eddie possesses a calm, relaxed, and friendly nature, though he is somewhat reserved and rarely shows strong emotions. He is generally easygoing and kind to his friends, but can occasionally come across as a showoff, particularly regarding his intelligence or gadgets. According to his friend Katie, he may privately consider himself better than others, suggesting a subtle undercurrent of arrogance beneath his amiable exterior. Eddie is academically stronger than Nate or Bear and has a pronounced interest in technology, often being seen using his phone or other devices. A defining characteristic is his skepticism towards the supernatural; he firmly believes that everything has a scientific explanation and frequently dismisses yo-kai-related incidents as mechanical glitches or other logical phenomena.

Eddie comes from a seemingly wealthy family and lives in a large house. However, his parents are often absent due to their busy work schedules, which leaves him alone on significant occasions, such as his birthday. This sense of loneliness is a key part of his background, explored in the anime episode Yo-kai Sandmeh, where a yo-kai helps him confront his hidden sadness about his parents not being present for his celebration.

In the story, Eddie serves as a supporting character and one of Nate's close companions. He often provides advice or joins his friends in investigating strange occurrences, even while he maintains that yo-kai are not real. In the video games, he plays key roles in several quests. For instance, in the first game, he investigates rumors of possessed samurai armor at the Gourd Pond Museum in a chapter called Eddie's Search. In Yo-kai Watch 2, he shows off a rare red Mega Watch, which is stolen and must be tracked down in the chapter High-Tech Hide And Seek. He also has other quests, such as organizing a hangout with friends or pursuing a romantic interest in a girl named Shelly, which involves yo-kai that alter her appearance. In Yo-kai Watch 3, he assists in upgrading the character Robonyan and interacts with Hailey Anne Thomas's detective agency.

Eddie's most significant relationship is with Nate Adams, with whom he is on very friendly terms. He is a calm presence who sometimes gives Nate advice but also enjoys teasing him. He is frequently seen hanging out with Bear, though the specific nature of their dynamic is less clearly defined. He also appears on cordial terms with his parents despite their frequent absence, and his mother plays a role in a quest in Yo-kai Watch 3 when she tries to replace a robot of his that she broke.

In terms of development, Eddie experiences moments of emotional vulnerability, particularly regarding his parents' neglect, as seen when the yo-kai Sandmeh influences him. However, his core trait of skepticism remains largely unchanged throughout the series; he consistently seeks logical explanations for supernatural events, even when direct evidence suggests otherwise. While he ages slightly within the series, turning 11 in one episode, his personality and role as the tech-savvy, rational friend remain consistent.

Eddie's notable abilities center on his technological proficiency. He is highly adept with gadgets, capable of using specialized devices like his Mega Watch for tracking and problem-solving. He is also shown to have skills such as disabling security systems, as seen when he tampered with a museum's alarms. His intelligence and logical mind are his primary tools, allowing him to assist his friends in unique ways, even as he denies the existence of the very creatures causing many of their adventures.
