Description
Bernardo, whose full name is Bernardo Bernstein, is an eleven-year-old student attending Springdale Elementary School. He lives in the Flower Hill neighborhood of Seaside Town. Known to his friends by the nickname Bear and called Bernardinho by his mother, he presents a striking physical appearance. He has a robust build, spiky black hair, and distinctive dark rings under his eyes, with a plaster often found on his left cheek. His typical outfit consists of a blue varsity jacket with white sleeves, a white shirt, brown shorts, and white sneakers, a look that can initially come across as intimidating.
Despite his thuggish exterior, Bernardo has a gentle, sensitive, and somewhat bumbling personality. He is highly emotional and prone to bursting into tears, and he is a self-professed glutton who lacks athleticism and often displays clumsiness. His sensitivity extends to a pronounced fear of his frequently scolding mother, Mrs. Barbosa, and he finds the mother of his friend Eddie even more frightening. This gentle nature makes him a deeply loyal friend, especially to his close companions Nate, Katie, and Eddie.
