Description
Meier Link, a central figure in the narrative, is a powerful vampire noble, also known as a Greater Noble, belonging to the ancient and distinguished House of Mayerling. He is a dhampir's opposite in the social hierarchy, a creature of immense age and standing, having lived for over ten thousand years. Physically, Meier Link appears as a tall, athletic, and strikingly handsome young man with pale white skin. He possesses long, flowing white hair typically tied in a loose ponytail with a sky-blue ribbon and deep red eyes, characteristics that mark his aristocratic lineage. His attire is elegant and gothic, consisting of all-black clothing with gold edgings on his armor-like garments, a long cape with a red interior, and a white aristocratic scarf.

Despite his fearsome reputation as a vampire lord, Meier Link's personality is defined by strong, compassionate, and almost chivalrous qualities that set him apart from many of his kind. He is not a cruel or tyrannical ruler; rather, he believes in the coexistence of humans and vampires as equals, arguing that humans should be helped and respected rather than ruled and terrorized. He is known to avoid unnecessary violence, only killing out of what he perceives as necessity. This internal conflict between his predatory nature and his noble ideals is a core aspect of his character, as he constantly fights against his own powerful bloodlust to protect those he cares about. His overriding motivation is not power or conquest, but love. He seeks to escape the endless cycle of conflict between humans and vampires to find a peaceful existence with his beloved, the human woman Charlotte Elbourne.

In the story, Meier Link serves not as a traditional villain but as a tragic romantic hero whose apparent abduction of Charlotte is revealed to be a willing elopement. His role is that of a fugitive, a powerful being who is simultaneously the pursuer and the pursued. He hires a group of lethal mutants known as the Barbarois to act as his bodyguards, creating a series of obstacles for the rival bands of hunters chasing him. His most significant relationship is, without a doubt, with Charlotte Elbourne. Their love is genuine and reciprocal, and his absolute devotion to her becomes the sole driving force of his long existence. He refuses to bite her or turn her into a vampire, desperately wanting her to remain free from the curse of eternal thirst and darkness that plagues him. His other key relationships are adversarial, primarily with the dhampir hunter D and the Markus brothers, who view him as a monster to be destroyed for a bounty.

Throughout the narrative, Meier Link undergoes significant development, primarily through the revelation of his true nature. Initially framed as a monstrous kidnapper, the story gradually reveals him to be a deeply romantic and tortured soul. He is forced to confront the limits of his willpower, admitting that the urge to feed on human blood is overwhelmingly strong and will eventually win, casting a shadow over his hopes for a peaceful future with Charlotte. His journey is one of desperate hope against impossible odds. In the film's climax, after being betrayed by the ancient vampire Carmilla, who sought to consume Charlotte for her own resurrection, Meier Link is fatally wounded. His final act of development is one of tragic acceptance and continuation of his goal, as he ultimately departs for a mythical city among the stars with Charlotte's body, choosing to seek their promised land even in death.

As a vampire noble, Meier Link possesses a vast array of supernatural abilities that make him a formidable opponent. He wields his long cape as a deadly weapon, capable of transforming it into a steel-hard blade with razor-sharp edges that can clash with D's legendary sword. He can also transmute his hand into a dense, organic metal claw for close-quarters combat. His physical prowess is immense, granting him superhuman strength, speed, and agility, and he can regenerate from severe wounds, such as being cut in half or having his skull split open. He possesses enhanced senses, allowing him to detect pursuers from kilometers away, and can use his cape for limited flight. Like other members of the Nobility, he has potent mental abilities, including mind control, and can spread his influence to turn humans into vampiric thralls. Despite his power, he shares the classic vulnerabilities of his kind, being susceptible to holy weapons and sunlight, the latter forcing him to seek shelter during the day.
