Description
Klaus Valca is a fifteen-year-old vanship pilot employed as a sky courier by the Norkia Vanship Union in the nation of Anatoray. He is the son of Hamilcar Valca and Justina Valca. His father died attempting to cross the Grand Stream, a treacherous aerial barrier, on a mission intended to bring peace to their world. After his mother also passed away, Klaus was raised within the vanship courier lifestyle and dedicated himself to following his father’s path, eventually becoming an exceptionally skilled pilot. He lives alongside his childhood friend and navigator, Lavie Head, with whom he shares the dream of one day conquering the Grand Stream.

Klaus often appears easygoing and can be a bit of a sleepyhead, but he is deeply dependable and rises to the occasion when others rely on him. He is courageous, determined, and willing to take on dangerous missions to help those in need. He holds great pride in his father’s memory and is driven by a desire to fulfill the legacy his father left behind. His sense of loyalty to his friends and allies is strong, and he approaches challenges with a resilient optimism.

Klaus’s primary motivation is to cross the Grand Stream, a feat his father was unable to complete. Alongside this personal ambition, he develops a powerful need to protect those close to him, especially after becoming entangled in the larger conflict between Anatoray, Disith, and the ruling Guild. He values the freedom and purpose that vanship flying gives him and seeks to use his skills for the benefit of others.

His role in the story begins when he and Lavie accept a high-risk mission to deliver a young girl named Alvis Hamilton to the battleship Silvana. This mission thrusts them into the heart of a war and the machinations of the Guild. Klaus becomes a fighter pilot aboard the Silvana, engaging in aerial combat and forming key alliances. His exceptional flying abilities catch the notice of Dio Eraclea, a Guild member who becomes fascinated with him. Over the course of the series, Klaus takes part in critical battles and ultimately helps activate the ancient vessel Exile, playing a central part in overthrowing Guild dominance.

Klaus’s most important relationship is with Lavie Head, his navigator and lifelong friend; their partnership is built on trust, shared history, and a mutual dream. With Alvis Hamilton, Klaus becomes a protector and a source of comfort. He develops an unlikely friendship with Dio Eraclea, based on their shared passion for flying despite their opposing sides. He looks up to Alex Row, the captain of the Silvana, who had a prior connection to Klaus’s father. He also shares a competitive but respectful dynamic with Tatiana Wisla, another pilot on the ship.

Throughout the series, Klaus matures from a carefree courier into a responsible combat pilot and leader. He confronts the realities of war and personal loss but retains his hopeful outlook. He learns more about his father’s past and the true nature of the world, and by the end he achieves his goal of crossing the Grand Stream, helping guide the people of Prester toward a new beginning.

Klaus is renowned for his extraordinary piloting ability, particularly his signature Immelmann turn, and holds a flight record that surpasses even adult pilots. His reflexes, spatial awareness, and intuitive connection to his vanship allow him to perform maneuvers that others cannot. These skills, combined with his bravery and quick thinking, make him a formidable asset in battle and a key figure in the events that reshape his world.
