Description
Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing is the head of the Hellsing Organization and the current master of the powerful vampire Alucard. As the last surviving member of the Hellsing family, she holds the title of Bureau Director and commands the Royal Order of Protestant Knights, a secretive group tasked with defending the United Kingdom and the Anglican Church from supernatural threats like vampires, ghouls, and other creatures of the night.

Born into the prestigious Hellsing lineage, which descends from the legendary monster hunter Abraham Van Helsing, Integra was raised from a young age to one day assume leadership of the family's sacred mission. Her childhood, however, was marked by tragedy. When she was twelve years old, her father, Sir Arthur Hellsing, passed away. Almost immediately, her jealous uncle, Richard, attempted to kill her to seize control of the organization for himself. In a desperate escape, Integra fled to the dungeons beneath the Hellsing mansion, where she accidentally awakened a dried-out vampire imprisoned within a coffin. The vampire, Alucard, was revitalized by her blood, which was spilled when her uncle shot her. Alucard killed her pursuers, and Integra, seizing a gun, shot and killed her treacherous uncle herself. In that moment, she became the master of Alucard, who swore his servitude to her, and the undisputed heir to the Hellsing legacy.

Integra is a woman of immense willpower, charisma, and unshakable resolve. She runs the Hellsing Organization with an iron fist, valuing her duty to protect Queen and country above all else. She has a collected and business-like demeanor, rarely allowing her personal emotions to interfere with her professional judgments. However, she is also prone to sudden, fierce outbursts of anger when her authority is challenged or her mission is threatened. For Integra, failure is never an option, especially her own. This rigid commitment is driven by a core belief that it is humanity's duty and obligation to defeat monsters, a task that should not be taken for enjoyment or pleasure but as a solemn responsibility. Her pride in her humanity is a cornerstone of her identity, allowing her to stand firm against beings of immense supernatural power without flinching.

As the leader of the Hellsing Organization, Integra's role in the story is that of the commander and strategist. She gives the orders, directs operations, and makes the difficult, often ruthless, decisions necessary to combat the rising tide of vampire attacks and the machinations of the Nazi vampire battalion known as Millennium. While she commands a small army of elite human soldiers, her most potent weapon is her servant, Alucard. Her relationship with Alucard is the most significant and complex of her life. It is fundamentally a master-servant bond, where she holds absolute control over him, including the ability to restrict or release his true power. Integra is the only person whom the ancient and arrogant Alucard respects and obeys. He acts as her sword and shield, and his immense power is wielded entirely at her command. The creator of the series has described their connection as a type of twisted relationship, and Alucard himself has made sexually charged remarks towards her, but the core of their dynamic remains that of a master commanding her most dangerous servant. She also shares a close, though more formal, bond with her aging butler, Walter C. Dornez, who served as a loyal confidant and trusted advisor from her childhood until his eventual betrayal. Integra also acts as a stern but occasionally caring commander to the fledgling vampire Seras Victoria, whom she accepts into the organization.

Throughout the narrative, Integra undergoes a significant development. As a child, she is portrayed as more timid and willful, but the trauma of her father's death and her uncle's betrayal forces her to grow up instantly. Over the course of the war with Millennium, she transforms from a young, somewhat inexperienced leader into a hardened and sagacious commander. Her resolve is tested and solidified by the losses she suffers and the betrayals she witnesses. The primary antagonist of the story, the Major, initially dismisses her as a beautiful young woman but ultimately comes to recognize her as the most dangerous enemy of all, acknowledging her evolution into a leader of true iron resolution.

Notable abilities include her extraordinary skills in fencing and marksmanship. She is a superb swordswoman with fast reflexes, having survived direct attacks from powerful foes like the regenerator Alexander Anderson. Her aim with a pistol is also practically superhuman, capable of feats such as shattering blessed bayonets with precise gunfire. Her most critical ability, however, is not physical but mental. She possesses a keen intellect for military strategy and deduction, a powerful and intimidating charisma, and an indomitable will that allows her to command the respect of monsters and men alike. She also possesses the mystical knowledge, passed down through her family, to control the seals placed on Alucard's devastating power.
