TV-Series
Description
Shunji Nagira, whose name is sometimes rendered with the honorific Maître due to his profession, is a supporting character in the anime Witch Hunter Robin. He is an attorney by trade and operates a private legal office with two assistants. Nagira is the older half-brother of Amon, sharing the same father but a different mother, and this family connection places him on the fringe of the central conflict involving the STN-J and the Solomon organization.

Nagira is a talkative and seemingly easygoing individual who often presents himself as goofy and occasionally lazy. He tends to do things his own way, and this laid-back exterior belies a sharp investigative mind. In personality, he is the opposite of his serious and taciturn half-brother Amon. He does not believe the government is correct in its persecution of witches, and his moral stance leads him to secretly provide aid and shelter to those targeted by the system. When Robin leaves the STN-J and becomes hunted by the organization, Nagira takes her in on behalf of Amon, offering her protection and giving her work as a bike messenger in his office as a cover. His motivation stems from a fundamental disagreement with the official policy of hunting witches, as well as a personal loyalty to his brother and a protective instinct toward Robin.

Nagira's role in the story is that of an ally and safe harbor for Robin after she becomes a fugitive. He serves as a link to the underground world of witches and information, gathering intelligence through contacts he maintains in places such as a pachinko bar and among the witch population in Wall City. While he does not possess any supernatural abilities himself, his strength lies in his investigative skills, his legal knowledge, and his extensive network of informants. He is determined to uncover the truth behind the persecution of witches and uses his position to support Robin as she seeks answers about her own origins and the secrets of the craft. His key relationships are with his brother Amon, whom he contrasts with in temperament, and with Robin, whom he protects and helps navigate a world that has turned against her. Throughout the latter part of the series, Nagira remains a steady, if unconventional, source of support, using his wits and resources to oppose the powerful forces aligned against them.
