Description
Kir is the constant companion and partner of Jing, the protagonist of the anime and manga series. He is an anthropomorphic bird, specifically an albatross, who possesses the ability to speak and reason like a human. Kir is not merely a pet; he is Jing's closest friend and an essential partner in their thieving exploits, often serving as Jing's transportation, confidant, and primary weapon.

Regarding his background, Kir was hatched from an egg on Jing's tenth birthday, an event that marked the beginning of their lifelong friendship. A significant detail in their shared history is the origin of their primary combined attack. In a flashback to their first adventure, a young Jing attempted to use a special firearm called the Crime Royale against a monster. When the gun was destroyed, Kir emerged from his egg and instinctively fused with Jing's arm, allowing them to fire a powerful green energy blast for the first time. This event established their unique combat synergy and the name for their signature move, the Kir Royale.

Kir's personality is a blend of loyalty, sarcasm, and distinct comic relief. He often acts as a cynical foil to Jing's calmer demeanor, engaging in witty banter and providing running commentary on their dangerous situations. His most defining and frequently recurring character trait is his obsessive and often comical infatuation with beautiful women. This penchant for chasing female attention is a primary source of humor, frequently distracting him or landing him in trouble, and it is considered an adult-oriented joke given that he is a bird showing interest in humans. Despite these flaws, such as being hot-tempered, impulsive, and sometimes petulant when he does not get his way, Kir is fiercely loyal and would put his life on the line for Jing. He is also notably distrustful of new people, unless they are female.

Within the story's framework, Kir serves multiple essential roles. He is the primary facilitator for Jing's most powerful offensive ability. By attaching himself to Jing's arm, he transforms into the Kir Royale, a wave motion gun that unleashes devastating blasts of green energy. Aside from this combat function, he often acts as Jing's mode of flight, carrying him across the fantastical landscapes of their world. His personality also gives him a unique role in their heists; his tendency to talk himself into trouble with strangers or get distracted by romance often creates additional challenges that Jing must solve, driving episodes forward.

Kir's relationship with Jing is the emotional anchor of the series. They are depicted as having been friends since they were children, and their bond is one of deep mutual trust and reliance. While they can occasionally argue and even go their separate ways during a mission, as seen in an episode where they have a falling out on the Musical Island of Coco-Oco, they are ultimately inseparable partners. His role is not just as a sidekick but as Jing's moral compass and closest companion, providing a source of warmth and humor to balance Jing's more unflappable and mysterious nature.

In terms of development, Kir's existence is largely static but with a few notable revelations. He begins as a simple talking bird but is later shown to be a being capable of extraordinary transformation. A unique aspect of Kir's character is that he is not definitively male from birth. In a flashback, before hatching, he was asked about his gender and responded that he had not yet decided, only later identifying as male to pursue a romantic relationship. Beyond this, his primary development is the deepening of his partnership with Jing and the rare instances where he is separated from his friend, which consistently causes problems for both of them. He possesses no physical weapons of his own when in his standard bird form, relying on his agility and wits. A noted weakness is his nyctalopia, meaning he cannot see well in the dark, which significantly impairs his judgment and mobility.
