Description
Mika Seguchi is a supporting character in the anime and manga series Gravitation. Born as Mika Uesugi, she is the older sister of Eiri Yuki and Tatsuha Uesugi, and the wife of Tohma Seguchi. She comes from a traditional family in Kyoto, where her father is a monk, and she later marries into the influential Seguchi family. Physically, she resembles her brother Eiri, with long brown hair and blue eyes, but carries herself with a sophisticated and elegant demeanor.

Her personality is often described as beautiful yet cold, reflecting a reserved and composed exterior. Beneath this coolness, however, she harbors a deep and protective love for her younger brother Eiri, for whom she would give almost anything. This fierce loyalty drives many of her actions throughout the story. She is also intelligent and pragmatic, able to navigate complex family and business dynamics.

Mika's primary motivation is ensuring Eiri's well-being and happiness, though her understanding of what that means evolves over time. Initially, she attempts to control aspects of Eiri's life for what she believes is his own good. For instance, early in the series, she tries to force Eiri to visit their dying father by bribing Shuichi Shindo with the promise of an introduction to her husband, Tohma. This action shows her willingness to manipulate others to achieve her goals.

Her role in the narrative is largely that of a familial bridge and a source of background information about the Uesugi family. She appears periodically to mediate between Eiri and their father, and to offer her perspective on Eiri's relationships. She is also connected to the music industry through her husband, Tohma, who heads NG Records, but she does not take an active role in the business.

The most significant relationships in Mika's life are with Eiri, her husband Tohma, and, gradually, Shuichi. Her bond with Eiri is the central emotional thread of her character; she worries about his traumatic past and his tendency to isolate himself. With Tohma, their marriage is largely understated onscreen, with little overt romantic affection shown, though they cooperate in managing family matters. Mika's stance on Eiri's relationship with Shuichi shifts over the course of the story. At first, she disapproves, fearing that the relationship brings Eiri pain. However, when she realizes that Eiri has genuine feelings for Shuichi, she changes her position and even encourages Eiri to pursue the relationship, showing her capacity for growth and acceptance.

Development-wise, Mika moves from a somewhat controlling and distant figure to a more supportive and understanding one. She learns to trust Eiri's choices and allows herself to step back from trying to manage his life. Notable abilities include her social savvy, her ability to command respect in tense family situations, and her persuasive skills, which she uses to influence those around her. While she has no supernatural or combat abilities, her strength lies in her emotional resilience and unwavering commitment to her brother's happiness.
