Description
Claude Akabane, often known by his epithet "Dr. Jackal," is a complex figure whose background as a former battlefield surgeon informs his clinical and detached approach to combat. He is a resident of Babylon City, a mysterious and powerful entity, and operates in the world as a Transporter, a specialist who escorts valuable or dangerous cargo. His past as a doctor left him with an intimate knowledge of the human anatomy, which he later perverts to a chilling degree in his fighting style.

Akabane is a tall, slender man with a perpetually polite and refined demeanor. He is almost always seen smiling, a gesture that does little to mask the profound sadism and bloodlust that lurks beneath his calm exterior. This contrast makes him deeply unsettling to both allies and enemies. His personality is defined by a deep-seated boredom with the ordinary. He does not fight for money, ideology, or loyalty, but solely for the sake of "having fun." For him, the ultimate pleasure is facing a worthy opponent who can genuinely challenge him, and he is often disappointed when his adversaries fail to provide a stimulating fight. His politeness is genuine in its form, but it is ultimately a veneer for a man who feels nothing but the thrill of a deadly game.

His primary motivation is the pursuit of this amusement. He accepts jobs as a Transporter not out of any professional commitment, but based on whether the assignment promises entertainment. This makes him an exceptionally dangerous and unpredictable individual; he can be a formidable ally against a common foe on one day, and a direct, lethal adversary to the protagonists on the next. His role in the narrative is that of a wild card, a recurring antagonist and occasional frenemy to the Getbackers. He serves as a constant, looming threat, a benchmark of terrifying power that even the main characters approach with caution and fear.

Akabane shares his most significant relationship with the Getbackers duo, Ban Midou and Ginji Amano. He holds a particular fascination with them, viewing the pair as rare sources of consistent entertainment. He frequently challenges them to fights, not out of malice, but out of a desire to test his abilities and his own limits against theirs. Ginji, in particular, has a deep-seated fear of Akabane, and for good reason, as their early encounters are brutal. This dynamic evolves not into friendship, but into a deep, grudging mutual recognition. Akabane respects their strength and resilience, while Ban and Ginji see him as a necessary evil they cannot ignore and a measuring stick for their own growth.

A notable aspect of Akabane's character is his evolution in capability. He is a quick learner who adapts his arsenal to counter previous weaknesses. After an early defeat where his metal scalpels were rendered useless by Ginji's magnetism, he replaces them with ceramic, titanium alloy, and diamond versions, demonstrating a pragmatic and incredibly dangerous ability to evolve and improve. His development is less about emotional change and more about a terrifying, constant progression in battle prowess, refining his techniques and revealing deeper layers of his supernatural power.

Kuroudo Akabane's abilities are among the most formidable in his world. His primary weapons are one hundred and eight scalpels infused with ceramic and diamond, which he can psychokinetically control with perfect accuracy. He has developed numerous techniques around them, such as Bloody Rain to shower an area, Bloody Hurricane to create a swirling vortex of blades, and Bloody Cross, a near-instantaneous ability that splits a target into four pieces with a gesture.

His most defining power is the manipulation of his own blood, which he can solidify into various weapons. His primary weapon, the Bloody Sword, is a construct made from his blood said to be capable of cutting through dimensions and space itself. A deeper ability, often called Divine Providence, states that anything Akabane cannot imagine cannot manifest in reality. Because he cannot fathom his own death, he is effectively immortal; he has survived having his body destroyed and being reduced to a mere drop of blood, simply regenerating and reviving. This ability also allows him to nullify the powers of others, as he refuses to acknowledge their validity.

Furthermore, Akabane is a Transcendental, a being whose true existence resides outside the normal flow of time and reality. This grants him immunity to many forms of reality-warping and time manipulation. He can also replicate the properties of anything that mixes with his blood, such as copying diamond to strengthen his scalpels or even assimilating an opponent's shadow to gain control over darkness. Combining his surgical precision, centuries of combat experience, and reality-defying powers, Claude Akabane stands as a serene and utterly terrifying force.
