TV-Series
Description
Kenny, almost universally known by his nickname "Chief" or "Boss," is a central protagonist from the original Beyblade anime series. His real name, Manabu Saien, is rarely used and is only revealed later in the series, typically spoken by his parents. He is the smallest and among the youngest members of his team, with a distinct appearance that includes messy light brown hair that often covers his eyes, a pair of blue glasses usually propped on his head, and unique lightning-shaped marks on both of his cheeks. His typical outfit consists of a simple white t-shirt, a green tie, and brown khaki pants.

Kenny serves as the strategic core, the "brains," of the Bladebreakers team, also known as the G-Revolutions. His primary role is that of a Beyblade technician, mechanic, and analyst. He possesses genius-level intelligence, particularly in mathematics, science, and computer technology, which he applies directly to the sport of Beyblading. His passion for knowledge is so profound that he has described himself as a nerd, expressing a willingness to take a job as a janitor simply to be near high-quality instruments and computers. He earns his nickname, "Chief," from his fellow Bladers due to his advanced expertise and his encyclopedic knowledge of Beyblade parts, statistics, and performance.

In terms of personality, Kenny is characterized by his loyalty, dedication, and a slight lack of confidence in his own battling abilities, especially when compared to his more naturally talented friends. He is the most consistent and reliable member of the team, often acting as a calming and rational presence. While he prefers to study Beyblades and find ways to improve them rather than engage in battles himself, he is deeply invested in the success and well-being of his friends. This is demonstrated by his unwavering support, particularly for Tyson Granger, with whom he shares his closest friendship. Although he initially feels a sense of jealousy when Tyson befriends Max Tate, this quickly fades as the three become good friends. Kenny's family runs a successful noodle shop, and his mother is known to be somewhat overbearing, frequently encouraging him to contribute more to the family business.

Kenny's role in the story evolves significantly over the course of the series. In the first two seasons, his involvement with the team is almost entirely non-combative; he is the essential support staff who repairs damaged Beyblades, performs upgrades, and uses his laptop computer and self-written software to analyze opponents in real-time. In the English dub of the first two seasons, his laptop contains a digital Bit-Beast named Dizzi who assists him with these analyses. Despite being the team's analyst, Kenny does battle on a few occasions in the first season. His Beyblade, the Jumping Base, uses a large spring to hop constantly, a gimmicky strategy designed to avoid attacks, though it proves ineffective against powerful Bladers like Kai Hiwatari.

A major development occurs in the third season, G-Revolution, when the original members Max, Kai, and Ray leave the Bladebreakers. To help his team, Kenny steps out of his comfort zone and becomes an official, competing member. He updates his Beyblade, calling it Einstein or Hopper, which uses a smaller, more sophisticated spring to make strategic hops that allow it to evade attacks and counter. During this season, he proves his growth as a Blader, managing to hold his own against powerful opponents like Tala from the Blitzkrieg Boys. Although he loses the match, he does so on purpose, using the loss to gather critical data and buy time to modify a teammate's Beyblade, ultimately securing a team victory. This demonstrates his unique strength: his strategic mind allows him to contribute to wins even in defeat.

His technical abilities are his greatest asset. He is responsible for creating the Hard Metal Beyblades, with some help from Miguel and Emily, and is capable of repairing and modifying any Beyblade to its full potential. When the team faces a shortage of parts, his extensive research and data allow him to design and oversee the construction of brand-new, custom Beyblades, including a powerful new version of Tyson's Dragoon. While his own Beyblading skills are weaker than those of the team's primary battlers, his analytical skills are unmatched; he can deconstruct an opponent's strategy and translate that knowledge into a winning tactic for his teammates. His quiet dedication and intellectual contributions make him an indispensable part of the team's success.
