Garurumon is the Champion-level form of Gabumon, the partner Digimon of Yamato Ishida, who is one of the original DigiDestined children and a recurring character in Digimon Adventure 02. As a large, wolf-like beast, Garurumon is covered in blue, white, and silver fur as hard as a legendary rare metal known as Mithril, and it possesses blades on its shoulders that can cut anything that touches them. This creature is known for its furious combat instincts, honed in freezing lands, combined with carnivore-like agility and the accuracy to reliably bring down its targets, which makes it a being feared by other Digimon. Despite its ferocious appearance, Garurumon has very high intelligence and is known to faithfully obey those it recognizes as its master or leader. Its personality is characterized by a strong sense of justice and loyalty, and it prefers fairness in battles. In Digimon Adventure 02, Garurumon typically appears when Yamato and Gabumon join the new generation of DigiDestined to protect both the Digital and Real Worlds. While the power to achieve this evolution was lost for a period after the original Adventure series, it was restored when the Sovereign Azulongmon gave some of his DigiCores to the DigiDestined, allowing the original partner Digimon to reach their Champion, Ultimate, and Mega forms once again. One of Garurumon's early appearances in the sequel series occurs during the reign of the Digimon Emperor, the antagonist of the first arc. When Gabumon and the other Digimon work to protect a village in the Digital World named Santa Caria, a Control Spire is cracked, enabling Gabumon to digivolve into Garurumon to help finish the battle. Garurumon also plays a key role in the fight against the Digimon Emperor's Dark Spirals. When Agumon is affected by a Dark Spiral and forced to darkly evolve into BlackMetalGreymon, Garurumon works together with Raidramon in a synchronized attack to destroy the spiral, freeing MetalGreymon from the Emperor's control. The character's loyalty extends to defending its allies, as shown when Garurumon and Stingmon work together to destroy a Dark Tower in Acapulco, Mexico, as part of a global effort to round up rogue Digimon. Later, during the invasion of the Real World by a group of rogue Digimon, Garurumon appears alongside other Digimon to defend Tokyo. The key relationship for Garurumon remains with its tamer, Yamato Ishida, whose bond of friendship and trust allows Gabumon to evolve to this form. Garurumon also shares a strong camaraderie with the other Digimon, particularly Agumon and his evolutions, as they have fought side-by-side since their earliest days as partners. During the events of Adventure 02, Garurumon also develops a working relationship with the new DigiDestined and their Digimon, such as Stingmon and Raidramon, often combining attacks to overcome powerful enemies. In terms of abilities, Garurumon's signature attack is the Howling Blaster, where it spews blue, high-temperature flames from its mouth. In some media, this attack spews ice instead. Other notable abilities include the Subzero Ice Fang, a freezing bite; Ice Wall, which creates an impregnable defensive wall with freezing surges; and Wolf Cry, a powerful howl that creates a shockwave. Garurumon can also perform physical attacks such as Body Blow, ramming enemies with its body, and Garuru Thrust, a backflip kick. With its combination of speed, intelligence, and raw power, Garurumon serves as a formidable ally to the DigiDestined in their continued efforts to maintain peace.
