Description
Hong Yeji is a fictional character from the animated series Digimon Adventure 02, known as a member of the next generation of Chosen Children. She is a sixth-grade student at Yeoui Elementary School, which is the Korean setting equivalent to Odaiba Elementary School. She lives in the same condominium as her fellow Chosen Children Lee Jaeha and Ricky, having known Jaeha for a long time as her neighbor's cousin. Her family runs a large convenience store on the first floor of their building, where she and her family members occasionally help out, a fact that becomes useful for providing supplies for the Digimon. Yeji comes from a large family with four siblings, and her two older sisters are close friends with the older sister of another Chosen Child, Choi Sanhae, which created a pre-existing connection between their families.

In terms of personality, Yeji is bright, cheerful, and energetic, though she often gives the impression of not acting like the eldest among the new generation of Chosen Children. She is considered the most carefree and easygoing of the group, with a childlike side that her friend Shin Nari points out. While she is not seen as a strict or authoritative older sister figure, she does take the lead during missions, frequently shouting the rescue slogan about opening the dimensional door and encouraging her younger teammates when they are in distress. She has a tendency to be talkative and sometimes goes overboard, but her natural optimism and inability to be easily swayed by darkness become significant strengths in challenging situations.

Yeji's primary motivation is to support her friends and protect both the human and Digital Worlds. She struggles at first with how to treat Seo Jeongwoo, who tormented Digimon during his time as the Digimon Kaiser, feeling uncomfortable and unsure of how to handle his presence in the group. However, when Jeongwoo secretly helps them during a crucial battle against Rockmon, Yeji realizes that her distrust was misplaced and makes a concerted effort to accept him as a friend. She sends him an email expressing gratitude and a promise to wait until the day they can truly be friends, showing her capacity for forgiveness and growth. Her future dream is to become a wise and mature mother and wife.

Her role in the story is as a core member of the new team of Chosen Children, partnering with the Digimon Hawkmon. While she is often supported by more experienced members like Ricky and Shin Nari, she contributes significantly during battles and emotional turning points. She is particularly instrumental in helping Nari confront her psychological struggles with the Sea of Darkness, using her bright and resilient personality to bring her friend back to her senses when Nari is unable to pull herself together. This dynamic underscores Yeji's hidden strength: her emotional resilience and her ability to lighten the mood, even in dire circumstances.

Yeji has several key relationships that define her character arc. She shares a close bond with Shin Nari, with whom she Jogress evolves her partner Hawkmon into Sylphimon. Despite Nari often being the more mature of the two, they balance each other well. Her relationship with Seo Jeongwoo evolves from distrust to friendship and eventually to marriage, as the ending of the series shows them starting a family together with three children. She is also familiar with Jang Hansol, having first connected with him when they were in the fifth grade after a school transfer.

Throughout her development, Yeji matures from a somewhat scatterbrained and impish girl into a capable and caring young woman. In later films, she is shown as a second-year engineering college student learning programming and studying abroad in Spain. During this time, she helps manage the online community for the Chosen Children, acting as a central coordinator. She continues to wear brightly colored clothes, showing that her spirited personality remains intact into adulthood.

In terms of notable abilities, Yeji carries a D-3 Digivice and wears glasses, which are sometimes depicted as breakable in moments of stress. Her partner Digimon is Hawkmon, who can evolve into Aquilamon. Through the process of Jogress evolution with Shin Nari's partner, they can fuse to become Sylphimon. Her personal understanding of technology and computers is also noteworthy, as she is often shown fixing her cousin Jaeha's computer and later pursues formal education in programming and engineering.
