Description
Henry Wong is one of the main human characters from Digimon Tamers, serving as the partner to the Digimon Terriermon. He is a boy of Asian descent, specifically half-Chinese and half-Japanese, and is the third of four children, with an older brother named Rinchei, an older sister named Jaarin, and a younger sister named Suzie. His father, Janyu, is Chinese and is one of the original creators of Digimon, while his mother, Mayumi, is Japanese.

Henry is characterized by a calm, mature, and deeply thoughtful personality, often serving as the voice of reason among his group of friends. His defining trait is his pacifism; he strongly dislikes fighting and believes Digimon should be friends, not used for battle. This philosophy stems from a specific incident in his past. When he was younger, he was a willful child who wanted to stand out in his large family. He began studying martial arts, specifically Tai Chi, but got into an argument with a neighborhood child and, in a moment of lost control, injured the other person with his skills. This event led him to practice intense self-restraint, fearing his emotions could cause harm. This guilt was compounded when he first met Terriermon; the Digimon was his partner in a computer game, and when Terriermon was badly hurt in a virtual battle, Henry's guilt manifested, triggering a Blue Card that brought Terriermon into the real world. Henry promised Terriermon then that he would never force him to fight again.

As a result of his past, Henry is initially reluctant to engage in battles with Terriermon, even going so far as to hide Terriermon from his family by having him pretend to be a stuffed animal, which his younger sister Suzie frequently borrows for her games. He is very protective of Suzie and often treats Terriermon with a similar cautiousness, feeling a strong sense of responsibility for his partner's well-being. Throughout the story, Henry learns that while needless fighting is wrong, some battles are necessary to protect the lives of others, and he gradually accepts this responsibility.

Henry's role in the story is that of a grounded, strategic thinker. He is highly intelligent, with a strong aptitude for computers and logic, and often acts as the mediator between the impulsive Takato Matsuki and the stubborn Rika Nonaka. He quickly befriends Takato and helps him manage the problems caused by his partner Digimon, Guilmon. While he clashes at first with Rika due to her cold and battle-hungry nature, he eventually becomes a close and trusted friend to her as well.

His relationship with his father, Janyu, is also significant. Along with his father, Henry practices Tai Chi, and his martial arts background becomes a notable ability. He incorporates the precise, flowing movements of Tai Chi into his Tamer actions, such as when he uses his modify cards or performs the Bio-Merge sequence with Terriermon. This discipline also reflects his controlled and focused nature. As the series progresses, Henry's development sees him moving from a passive, guilt-ridden pacifist to an active hero who understands the necessity of strength to protect his friends, his family, and both the real and Digital Worlds. He ultimately achieves the ability to Bio-Merge with Terriermon, transforming into the powerful MegaGargomon.
