Description
Le grand lapin blanc in the 1983 anime adaptation of Lewis Carroll's story is an anthropomorphic rabbit with white fur who serves as a herald and attendant to the Queen of Hearts. He is perpetually anxious and fixated on punctuality, frequently checking his pocket watch and muttering about being late. This nervous urgency defines his every action and stems from his responsibility to announce the Queen's arrivals and oversee ceremonial duties in Wonderland. He is also the uncle of Benny Bunny, Alice's rabbit companion, and this family connection places him within the network of Wonderland residents. His role is that of a catalyst: his hurried appearance each episode draws Alice’s curiosity and leads her down the rabbit hole into Wonderland, where she embarks on a new adventure. Throughout the series, he remains consistently jittery and task-oriented, often mistaking Alice for his maid Mary Ann or becoming flustered when plans go awry. Despite his constant worry, he fulfills his duties as the Queen's herald, announcing the start of croquet matches and later the trial. His notable trait is his time obsession, symbolized by his watch, and his ability to move quickly through Wonderland, though he never overcomes his chronic lateness. He undergoes little personal development; his anxious personality stays unchanged, serving as a steady, if frantic, guide who links the real world to Wonderland in each episode.
