TV-Series
Description
Benny Bunny is a character created exclusively for the 1983 anime series, serving as a central figure who does not appear in the original literary classic. He is a small, talking white rabbit who becomes Alice's closest companion and guide throughout her adventures.

His background begins in Wonderland, where he is introduced as the nephew of the famous White Rabbit. Before meeting Alice, Benny was formerly the performance partner of a magician. Alice discovers him inside what appears to be an empty magical top hat she finds in an antique shop, and she is surprised when he emerges from it alive and able to speak. Benny explains that only people with imagination are capable of hearing his voice, which is why Alice can understand him while others cannot.

In terms of personality, Benny is portrayed as friendly and amicable, quickly forming a strong bond with Alice. He serves as her loyal partner and the primary catalyst for her journeys to Wonderland, effectively introducing her to that fantastical realm and its many peculiar inhabitants. His role in the story is that of a constant companion; he accompanies Alice on nearly all of her adventures, helping her navigate the challenges and mysteries of Wonderland. Despite his generally agreeable nature, Benny is not without flaws. He can cause occasional trouble for Alice's family due to his natural rabbit habits, and he has conflicts with the family cat, Dinah, whom he can understand. His emotional range is also explored in the story; in one episode titled Runaway Benny, he disappears out of jealousy, prompting Alice to search for him throughout Wonderland.

Key relationships define much of Benny's character. His most significant relationship is with Alice, to whom he is a best friend. In Wonderland, he has a familial connection to the White Rabbit as his uncle. He also harbors a notable fear of the Jabberwocky, a creature with a known fondness for rabbit stew, which causes Benny considerable anxiety whenever he encounters this fearsome beast.

Regarding his development, Benny evolves from a magical artifact found in a hat shop into an indispensable and active participant in Alice's life. He transitions from being a simple discovery to the gateway through which Alice experiences Wonderland, and eventually to a close friend whose absence causes her genuine distress. His character demonstrates that he is capable of complex emotions such as jealousy, adding depth to his role as a sidekick.

In terms of notable abilities, Benny's primary gift is his power of speech, though this ability is conditional as only imaginative individuals can hear him. As a resident of Wonderland, he possesses an inherent familiarity with that world and its denizens, which makes him an effective guide for Alice. He is also able to understand animals such as Dinah the cat, suggesting a form of cross-species communication.
