Description
Gonzo Aida, whose name is also written as Gozo Aida or Gouzou Aida, is the president of K2 Corporation and the father of Rion Aida in the Agent Aika anime. His background begins as an active industrial spy, but after the catastrophic earthquake that reshaped the world into a largely submerged landscape, he seized the opportunity to enter the salvaging business and founded K2 Corporation, a salvage operation. In the original series he is depicted as a middle-aged man with dark skin and short black hair, and his appearance and manner reflect a seasoned, world-weary personality shaped by years of hard experience.
As a businessman, Gonzo prefers to hold on to the old ways and principles of doing business, especially the approach of offering the cheapest price for the best service. This old-fashioned and uncommercial philosophy often does little good for the company's profitability, and it puts him at odds with more modern expectations of running a business. His traditional policies also create a quiet tension with his daughter Rion, who wants to run the company more effectively but finds her father's stubborn adherence to his methods hard to overcome.
Gonzo's connection to Aika Sumeragi goes far back, and he serves as her long-time employer and mentor. In the main Agent Aika story, he assigns Aika and Rion a mission to recover data on a dangerous new energy source known as Lagu, a task that draws them into direct conflict with rival salvagers and the Hagen siblings, who seek the same power source for their own purposes. In this way he is the figure who sets the central mission of the story in motion, acting as the head of the operation that sends the main characters into danger.
His role as a father is also significant. Rion is his daughter, born after her mother divorced, and she looks up to Aika almost like an older sister. Gonzo's protective and traditional stance contrasts with Rion's desire for progress and her wish to be more involved in the business, and much of her development involves balancing loyalty to her father with her own ambitions as a salvager.
Although Gonzo rarely fights on screen, he proves to be a capable combatant when the situation demands it. During the events of Delmo Operation: White Silver, he attends a karaoke gathering with a group of young women who turn out to be Delmo operatives in disguise. Despite being intoxicated, he defeats the entire group using an improvised variant of the drunken fist martial arts style, overpowering the operatives with counterstrikes, a drinking glass, an elbow strike, a microphone, a leg sweep, a powerful spinning kick, and a final headbutt. He is one of the few male characters in the franchise who consistently overpowers Delmo operatives without assistance. His character appears across the three series, including AIKa R-16: Virgin Mission, Agent Aika, and Aika Zero, maintaining his position as head of K2 Corporation and a recurring presence in Aika's world.
