TV-Series
Description
Minamo Kurosawa, almost universally known by her nickname Nyamo, is a physical education teacher at the high school where the story takes place. She is a former student of the same school and a high school classmate of her colleague, Yukari Tanizaki. Her nickname Nyamo stems from her own student days.
In terms of personality, Nyamo is depicted as a responsible, kind, and well-liked teacher who is far more composed and disciplined than her friend and rival, Yukari. She is popular with her students, who often come to her with their problems, and she is respected as the dedicated advisor for the women's swim team, where students like Kagura call her Coach. Despite her general level-headedness, Nyamo has notable vulnerabilities. She is extremely sensitive about her lack of success in romance, a subject Yukari relentlessly teases her about using past stories and alleged blackmail material like a love letter from their high school days. Her composure can also break when she drinks alcohol; on one notable occasion, she drank excessively to prevent Yukari from doing so and ended up giving her students an awkward and embarrassing impromptu lecture about adult relationships. Academically, she struggles with subjects like mathematics and English, leading Yukari to frequently insult her as a stupid physical education teacher, a comment that visibly frustrates her.
Nyamo's primary role in the story is to serve as the sensible and mature foil to the chaotic and immature Yukari. Their juvenile, exasperating, but deeply bonded friendship is a central source of comedy. Their dynamic is often compared to that of the students Tomo Takino and Koyomi Yomi Mizuhara. Nyamo frequently acts as Yukaris caretaker, driving her to school and picking her up when she is drunk. Despite the constant bickering and Yukaris freeloading and insults, their enduring friendship is a key aspect of her character. As a teacher, she is dedicated and professional, even turning down a more prestigious and higher-paying job offer to stay with her students in an anime-exclusive storyline.
Nyamos relationships are central to her character. Her most significant relationship is with Yukari, which is a complex mix of friendship, rivalry, and mutual dependence. With her students, she maintains a positive and respected role, particularly with Kagura, who holds her in high regard as her swim coach, and Chiyo Mihama, whom she sometimes tries and fails to assist with studying. She also has a stern but professional relationship with her colleague, the lecherous literature teacher Kimura, whom she scolds for his inappropriate behavior during swimming classes.
Over the course of the series, Nyamo does not undergo a dramatic transformation but demonstrates a quiet evolution as a character. She consistently chooses responsibility and professionalism over chaos, reinforcing her role as a grounding and stable presence. Her occasional lapses in composure, such as the drunken lecture or her frustration over being unable to help a student with a math problem, humanize her and make her struggles relatable. Her development is measured by her enduring patience and her commitment to her career and students, cementing her as a figure of quiet strength and integrity. In terms of notable abilities, she is a highly competent physical education instructor and swim coach. She also owns and drives her own car, a blue Toyota Vitz, which she uses to pick up Yukari. She stands 161 cm tall.
