Description
Light Nostrade, also rendered as Raito Nostrado, is a character in the anime and manga series Hunter x Hunter who appears during the Yorknew City arc. He is the head of the Nostrade Family, a mafia organization that operates under the authority of the larger Ritz Family, and he serves as the employer of Kurapika during that part of the story.

His background is defined by a remarkable rise in the criminal underworld. Originally the leader of a minor provincial mafia family with very little influence, Light managed to greatly increase his family's standing by relying on the unique Nen ability of his daughter, Neon Nostrade. Neon could produce written prophecies about people's futures, and Light used this fortune-telling gift to make his family indispensable to powerful figures in the mafia community, including the influential Ten Dons. Through this reliance on his daughter's power, the Nostrade Family became wealthy and respected within the underworld.

In terms of personality, Light presents an outwardly kind and benevolent manner, but he is ambitious and practical underneath. He indulges his daughter and allows her spoiled and eccentric behavior largely because her ability is the foundation of his success. He values power and status, and he is willing to compromise when the situation demands it, particularly in his dealings with other mafia figures. His primary motivation is to preserve and strengthen the Nostrade Family's position, which he understands depends entirely on Neon's predictions.

His role in the story centers on the events of the Yorknew City Underground Auction. To protect Neon, he and his head bodyguard, Dalzollene, hire additional bodyguards, including Kurapika. This hiring places Kurapika inside the mafia structure and allows him to pursue the Phantom Troupe, the group responsible for the destruction of his clan and the theft of the Kurta Scarlet Eyes. After the Phantom Troupe attacks the auction and kills several bodyguards, including Dalzollene, Kurapika takes over as the lead bodyguard, and the family becomes caught up in the conflict between Kurapika and the Troupe.

His key relationships include his bond with his daughter, Neon, whom he genuinely cares for but also exploits as a financial asset. He is served loyally by Dalzollene, and he later relies on Kurapika as his head of security. The Nostrade Family itself is subordinate to the Ritz Family, a more powerful mafia group.

His development in the story is tied to the fate of his daughter's power. When Chrollo Lucilfer, the leader of the Phantom Troupe, secretly steals Neon's ability using his own Nen, the Nostrade Family loses the foundation of its influence. Neon herself remains unaware that her ability has been taken, but without it the family falls from grace and fades into decline in the aftermath of the Yorknew City arc.

Notable abilities: Light Nostrade himself displays no significant combat or Nen abilities. His influence comes from his organizational skills and his use of Neon's prediction power, which he converts into wealth and standing within the mafia world.
