Description
Paiway Underberg is a young girl from Mejere who serves aboard the Nirvana as the ship's nurse. She works under Duelo McFile, though her uniform resembles a French maid's outfit more than a nurse's. Before the appearance of men on the vessel, she was the ship's only doctor, having held that role until Duelo arrived and took over the medical duties; she then became his assistant, a change she was initially not at all pleased about. Physically, she is a small child with black hair reaching to her waist and red eyes.
Paiway is observant, curious, and mischievous. During the first season, she spent much of her free time trying to exploit the bad habits of the male crew members. She would secretly keep tabs on the men, jotting down notes in her journal or taking pictures with her camera, activities she referred to as Pai-checks. Her surveillance eventually paid off and sparked a raid that got all the men, including the drifter Rabat, locked up for a time. She stopped this behavior after a combination of seeing Dita's reaction to Hibiki's imprisonment and discovering that men and women were of the same species, though she resumed her activities anyway.
