Description
Kyota Kamikurata is a high school student and the protagonist of the story. He is a free-spirited teenager whose primary passion is rock music, and he dreams of becoming a professional singer. This ambition puts him at odds with his parents' expectations, as he is hesitant to reveal to them that he wants to pursue a music career instead of attending college. To achieve his goal, he forms a band named T.L. Signal with his friends, guitarist Hirota Shingo and keyboardist Kojima Junichi, and the group begins working for a company called CosmoPop.

Kyota’s life takes an unexpected turn when he starts experiencing strange visions of mysterious girls with otherworldly powers fighting in a hidden war. Unbeknownst to him, he is not an ordinary teenager but a Mindbreaker, a rare type of individual who possesses the ability to influence and unlock the hidden potential of the supernatural factions engaged in this ancient conflict. His specific method of using this power is unique, as his music serves as the catalyst for his abilities. The power of his singing and his harmonica playing can directly inspire and empower the psychic beings known as spirits, giving him a significant, if initially unrecognized, role in the battle.

His personality is kind and his motivations are largely driven by his personal relationships and his love for music rather than any grand ambition for power. Initially, he is unaware of the true nature of the psychic turbulence he and those close to him begin to notice. He struggles to understand his own role, often feeling that his powers are worthless compared to the immense forces clashing around him. This lack of confidence is a key part of his character development, as he grapples with the responsibility thrust upon him.

The most critical relationship in his life is with his childhood friend and girlfriend, Yoriko Sannou. The story grows more complicated when Kyota discovers that Yoriko may be the key to the entire war, a revelation that deeply affects him. As Yoriko begins to awaken as a powerful being, she starts to hurt other actors and attacks another girl, Asumi, sending her into a coma. This traumatic event causes Kyota to lose his creative touch and become overwhelmed with frustration, leading him to completely abandon his band T.L. Signal. He wanders the city in a state of despair until he encounters Kiriko, a girl his music had previously helped. She explains the positive impact his songs have had on her, which gives him a new perspective on the value of his power.

Kyota is not the only Mindbreaker in the story. He stands in contrast to his rival, Keijii Abuto, a ruthless and ambitious talent scout who uses a technological laptop and a control collar to focus his abilities and manipulate others for his own jealous and power-hungry ends. While Abuto represents a self-serving use of power, Kyota's approach is more selfless, stemming from his emotional attachments and his desire to help his friends. As a vocalist, his notable abilities are tied to his voice and his harmonica, with his specific power classified as Mindbreaker, allowing him to influence the supernatural world through his music.
