Description
Caldina is a character who appears in the second story arc of Magic Knight Rayearth. Originally from the nation of Chizeta, she is a skilled dancer and illusionist who comes to the land of Cephiro for her own reasons. Her name is believed to be derived from the Toyota Caldina, a variant of the Toyota Corona.

Caldina possesses a bright, cheerful, and extroverted personality. She is highly confident, even to the point of being self-absorbed, and takes great pride in her appearance, wearing very revealing dancer's clothing. She has a notable fondness for money and games of chance, and her initial motivations are driven primarily by financial gain. Her speech is marked by a distinctive dialect, which comes across as an Osaka dialect in the original Japanese version.

In the first season, Caldina is hired by the antagonist Zagato as an assassin to stop the Magic Knights. Despite working for the enemy, she lacks genuine loyalty to him. During her encounters with Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu, she demonstrates her powers of hypnosis and illusion, often using her dancing to manipulate her opponents. Her defeat at the hands of the Knight Fuu, as well as the Knights' strong will, leads to a change of heart. Impressed by them, she abandons her mission and her employment with Zagato.

Following these events, Caldina returns and becomes a supporting ally to the Magic Knights in their new quest. She comes to reside in the castle of Cephiro, where she apologizes for her previous hostile actions. Her relationships with other former enemies of the Knights develop further during this time. She treats the young beast-summoner Ascot like a younger brother, frequently teasing him about his crush on the Knight Umi. Caldina also develops a romantic relationship with the swordsman Lafarga, who is similarly devoted to protecting Cephiro. While her primary role in the second arc is as a member of the supporting cast by the protagonists' side, she is also shown to be a capable fighter who assists in defending the crumbling land.

Her notable abilities are centered on her skills as a phantasmist and hypnotist. Using her dance movements, as well as the flashing red jewels on her gloves, earrings, or shoes, she can create powerful illusions and control the minds of others, forcing them to see what she wishes or to attack their own allies. She is also an accomplished dancer and is highly skilled at playing cards and other games of chance.
