TV-Series
Description
In the Spanish dub of the anime, the character known in Japanese as Alcyone is renamed Alanis. Her story in Magic Knight Rayearth 2 follows a tragic path of manipulation and lost identity, building upon her actions from the first season.

Alanis is a powerful sorceress who was once a dedicated student of the Master Mage Clef. Her background is one of privilege and duty, as she was originally brought up to attend to the Pillar of Cephiro. However, her life took a decisive turn when she fell deeply in love with the high priest Zagato. This unrequited love became the central motivation of her life, leading her to abandon her teacher and become Zagato’s loyal servant. Her devotion is entirely one-sided, as Zagato does not return her affections and instead uses her loyalty heartlessly to achieve his own goals.

In the second series, following the deaths of Zagato and Princess Emeraude, Alanis finds herself without purpose. Her existing emotional vulnerability makes her easy prey for the evil witch Debonair, who captures and brainwashes her. This marks a significant change from her role as a formidable, if misguided, antagonist acting on her own feelings for Zagato. Under Debonair’s control, she becomes a mindless slave and is stripped of her memories. In this state, she is used as a gateway to allow Debonair’s monsters to enter the Castle of Cephiro, terrorizing its people and increasing the witch’s power.

Her role in the story shifts when she is captured in battle by the swordsman Lantis. Imprisoned within the castle, she initially remains under Debonair’s influence and has lost all sense of self. A key moment in her development occurs when she recovers her memories. Upon regaining her identity, she remembers Debonair’s true plans for Cephiro and the location of her stronghold. Despite the danger, she resolves to reveal this crucial information. Her act of defiance against her captor leads directly to her demise, as Debonair kills her for her betrayal before she can fully complete her warning.

Her key relationships heavily define her arc. Her love for Zagato is the primary driver of her actions, and after his death, her mental state deteriorates, making her susceptible to Debonair. Her connection to Lantis is also notable; because he is Zagato’s younger brother, his resemblance to the man she loved causes her further emotional turmoil, and she briefly projects her unresolved feelings for Zagato onto him. Her former mentor, Clef, represents the path she abandoned, highlighting the tragedy of her fall from grace.

Regarding her abilities, Alanis is a highly skilled ice sorceress. Her magical training under Clef makes her a formidable adversary, with her spells being primarily ice-based attacks, such as creating sharp ice projectiles and freezing opponents. In the second series, her powers are used by Debonair for destructive purposes, but her own innate magical strength remains a key part of her character, making her a dangerous servant even while brainwashed.
