Description
Puppetmon, known as Pinochimon in the original Japanese version, is a Mega-level Puppet Digimon and one of the four Dark Masters who serve as the principal antagonists of the first Digimon Adventure series. He is the second of the Dark Masters that the Chosen Children encounter and defeat.

According to official Digimon reference material, Puppetmon was born from the cursed data of Cherrymon, a dreaded tree Digimon, and it is widely believed that a malicious hacker created him from that data. In keeping with his puppet appearance, he resembles an evil version of Pinocchio, but he is no simple doll: he has a will of his own and is fully capable of moving around independently. He establishes himself in a forested region of the Digital World, where he rules over the local woodland Digimon and treats the territory as his personal playground.

Puppetmon's personality can be described as a mixture of a spoiled, tantrum-prone child and a ruthless, murderous trickster. He demands to be the winner of every game he plays and flies into rages when things do not go his way. He enjoys toying with his victims and watching their confusion, and he will dispose of them for amusement even when they are his own servants. Despite his cunning cruelty, he is strikingly gullible and easy to deceive, a weakness that proves central to his downfall. His love of falsehoods ties directly into his design, as telling lies causes his nose to grow, which he can then use as a weapon against opponents.

His motivation is simple: amusement, control, and the satisfaction of treating others as puppets. He shows no interest in grand ideology or loyalty beyond his place in the Dark Masters' plan, and he prefers to torment his opponents in elaborate, childish games rather than simply destroy them. This is most clearly seen in his approach to the Chosen Children, whom he captures and manipulates using voodoo-style dolls tied to their bodies, forcing them to dance to his commands like marionettes.

In the story, Puppetmon governs the forest portion of Spiral Mountain and commands forest-dwelling Digimon such as Kiwimon. He becomes a particular adversary of T.K., who is willing to play along with Puppetmon's games in order to find a way to free the captured Chosen Children. T.K. exploits Puppetmon's gullibility and need for a playmate, ultimately tricking him into smashing the remote control that links the voodoo dolls to his victims. With his control mechanism destroyed and his temper spiraling, Puppetmon becomes vulnerable, and his defeat comes about largely because of his own flaws rather than through a direct contest of strength. His relationships, whether with his fellow Dark Masters or with the Digimon he commands, are defined by the same cruel, transactional attitude he shows everyone.

Puppetmon undergoes little development over the course of his appearances. He remains an impulsive, childish sadist who never learns from his mistakes, and his end is brought about precisely because he cannot resist being fooled. In terms of abilities, his signature technique is Bullet Hammer, in which he loads gunpowder into a revolver-style hammer and strikes his opponent with explosive force. He is also capable of Puppet Pummel, a similar strike-based attack, and Strange Dance, a disorienting movement that confuses those who witness it. His extending nose serves as a physical weapon, and he can summon or animate a giant wooden doll, a technique that English localizations treated as a separate entity called Housemon. Combined with his use of controlling dolls and his ability to command the creatures of his forest, Puppetmon is a dangerous opponent whose greatest threat lies not in raw power but in his love of playing with his prey.
