Description
Gatomon, whose form is that of a small, white-furred cat Digimon with purple stripes and a tail ring, has a more complex and tragic background than most of her allies. Originally, her Digi-Egg was one of the original eight meant for the DigiDestined, but it was lost during an attack by the Dark Masters. She hatched alone and spent a long time searching for her destined partner. During this lonely period, she was found and taken in by the evil vampire Digimon Myotismon. Forced to serve as one of his lieutenants, she endured physical and emotional abuse, which left her with physical scars that she later hides under her gloves. Her time under Myotismon caused her to forget her true purpose, and she became a formidable and sometimes ruthless fighter for him, all while maintaining a secret friendship with a kind Digimon named Wizardmon.

Upon arriving in the human world to hunt for the eighth DigiDestined child, Gatomon discovered that her destined partner is Kari Kamiya. Though initially conflicted, she could not bring herself to harm Kari. When Myotismon captured Gatomon and used her to identify Kari, Wizardmon sacrificed his life to protect them. This act of selfless courage and Kari's grief unlocked the power of the Crest of Light, allowing Gatomon to digivolve for the first time into her Ultimate form, Angewomon.

Angewomon is a striking, angelic warrior with eight white wings and a helmet that conceals the upper part of her face. As an archangel Digimon, her power is of a holy, vaccine attribute, making her especially effective against evil, virus-type, and demonic Digimon. Her personality is a blend of her difficult past and her new purpose. She is deeply kind and gentle, with a strong sense of justice, and she will not hesitate to destroy those she deems evil. She also retains a fierce pride and a healthy curiosity, which can sometimes manifest as a playful or mischievous side. Her time serving Myotismon left her independent, perceptive, and resilient, but also with a noticeable temper and a strong sense of pride, especially in her abilities as a female warrior.

In the story, Angewomon plays a crucial role as a powerful ally. Her first major act is to avenge Wizardmon by destroying Myotismon with her signature attack, the Holy Arrow. She later helps the other DigiDestined fight against even greater threats like VenomMyotismon, the Dark Masters, and the primordial Digimon Apocalymon. One of her most memorable rivalries is with her dark counterpart, LadyDevimon. Their fights are less about a simple battle of good versus evil and more of a personal, pride-fueled catfight where Angewomon's temper and pride often get the better of her, leading to brutal, close-quarters combat involving hair-pulling and slapping.

Her key relationship is with her human partner, Kari, for whom she feels a deep, protective bond. She also shares a strong connection with Angemon, the partner of Kari's brother T.K. Together, the two angel Digimon are a formidable team, often fighting side-by-side, and their partnership reflects the special connection between hope and light. In Digimon Adventure 02, after the DigiDestined used the power of their Crests to restore balance to the Digital World, Gatomon lost the ability to become Angewomon. For a period, she relied on armor digivolution to become Nefertimon or DNA digivolution to become Sylphidmon. Later in the series, the holy Dragon Digimon Azulongmon temporarily restored her power, allowing her to reach the Angewomon form once again to face new threats.

Angewomon’s notable abilities include her power of flight. Her primary attack, Holy Arrow or Celestial Arrow, summons a bow of light from her glove to fire a devastating, piercing projectile. Her other signature move, Heaven's Charm or Saint Air, creates a halo of rainbow light that can be used to paralyze enemies, create a protective barrier, or absorb the energy of her allies' attacks to fire a much more powerful blast. While typically portrayed as an Ultimate or Perfect level Digimon, Angewomon is depicted as a higher-level evolution than the Champion-level Angemon, a testament to her immense power. At the pinnacle of her evolution, she can further digivolve into the Mega-level Digimon, either the archangel Ophanimon or the holy dragon Magnadramon.
