Description
Pinokimon, known in the Japanese version as Pinocchimon and in the English dub as Puppetmon, is a villainous Digimon in Digimon Adventure. He is an Ultimate-level Puppet Digimon with a Virus attribute, said to have been created from the cursed data of a Jyureimon by a malicious hacker. Despite his marionette-like appearance, he moves and acts on his own will, and his name and design draw from the fairy-tale puppet Pinocchio.
His personality is among the most detestable of the Ultimate Digimon. He is a chronic liar, deeply spoiled, selfish, gullible, and quick to throw violent temper tantrums. He regards war and killing as games and weapons as toys, taking pleasure in confusing his victims and watching them die, even when they are his own subordinates. He trusts no one and will destroy his followers over the slightest provocation. His cruel nature is said to stem from the innocent and ruthless sides of children's hearts, and beneath his malice lies a genuine unhappiness: he has no friends who will play with him and craves attention. When Takeru Takaishi points this out directly, Pinokimon is visibly shaken. His servant Cherrymon attempts to tell him that something essential is missing from him, but Pinokimon kills him instead of heeding the warning.
In the story, he is one of the Dark Masters, the four Ultimate Digimon who reshape the Digital World into Spiral Mountain. His domain is the forest, where he resides in a large mansion and rules the Wind Guardians, commanding Digimon such as Kiwimon, Blossomon, Mushroomon, Floramon, Deramon, and numerous RedVegiemon. He is the second Dark Master the DigiDestined confront and serves as Takeru's personal archenemy. During his introduction, he uses puppet threads to control opponents and crafts dolls resembling Tai and the other children in order to dismember them in a deadly game.
His downfall comes when he coldly discards loyal followers and then encounters Matt Ishida and MetalGarurumon. He demands that they defeat WarGreymon, but they refuse, and his puppet threads fail to control them. Matt tells him that nobody would listen to someone who casually kills his own allies. Enraged, Pinokimon attacks and is struck head-on by MetalGarurumon's Cocytus Breath, which destroys him. He dies without ever understanding the missing something that Cherrymon spoke of, making his end one of the most poignant among the Dark Masters.
His notable abilities include Bullet Hammer, his signature move, in which he packs gunpowder into a revolver-shaped hammer and slams it into his target, causing the blow and the resulting explosion to erase the victim without a trace. He also wields Drill Nose, a rapidly spinning steel nose that bores through enemies, and Flying Cross Cutter, a cross-shaped boomerang attack. Although he is the smallest of the Dark Masters, standing roughly the same height as Takeru, he can fight on equal terms with powerful Ultimate Digimon such as WarGreymon and MetalEtemon.
