OVA
Description
Moemi Hayakawa is a supporting character in the story of Video Girl Ai. She is a high school girl with medium-length brown hair and brown eyes, known among her classmates for her kind and gentle demeanor. Moemi is initially presented as the object of the protagonist Yota Moteuchi's unrequited affection. However, it is soon revealed that she herself has romantic feelings for Yota's close friend Takashi Niimai, not for Yota. This one-sided love triangle forms the emotional backdrop of the early narrative.

Moemi is shy and reserved when it comes to expressing her own emotions. She often writes letters confessing her love for Takashi but never gathers the courage to send them, preferring to keep her feelings private. Her personality is defined by a selfless and caring nature; she genuinely wishes for the happiness of those around her, even at the expense of her own desires. This trait makes her a sympathetic figure, as she struggles with her own unreturned feelings while remaining supportive of others.

Her primary motivation is to win Takashi's affection, but she does not pursue him aggressively. Instead, she relies on subtle gestures and hopes that her feelings will eventually be noticed. When Takashi gently rejects her advances, she takes it relatively well but continues to hold onto hope, demonstrating a quiet perseverance rather than confrontation.

In the story, Moemi serves as a catalyst for the central conflict. Yota's desire to help her be with Takashi leads him to the mysterious video rental store Gokuraku, where he obtains the video that brings Ai Amano into his life. Moemi's presence in the narrative highlights Yota's initial emotional immaturity and his inability to see the real feelings of those close to him. As the story progresses and Yota's affections shift from Moemi to Ai, Moemi's role diminishes. She becomes a background figure, and her story arc remains largely unresolved in terms of her own romantic ambitions. Her development is subtle: she learns to cope with rejection and continues her daily life, but she does not undergo a major transformation.

Key relationships include Yota, who never confesses to her, Takashi, whom she loves but who does not reciprocate, and Ai, whom she meets only briefly. Moemi does not possess any supernatural or notable abilities; she is an ordinary human girl whose significance lies in her function as the initial object of Yota's desire and the mirror of unrequited love within the story.
