Description
Mum Mew is a character who appears as a minor antagonist in the later part of the Monster Rancher anime series, specifically during its third season. She is a feminine monster based on the cat-doll breed of the same name, originally depicted with a wooden body, curved horns in place of ears, and doll-like features, later redesigned with short red hair and a more feline appearance. In the story, she serves as one of General Durahan's assistants and is frequently seen alongside her partner Gobi. Her role within Durahan's forces is to manage the unleashing of frozen warrior monsters, and she acts as the strategic mind to Gobi's more brute-force approach.

Mum Mew possesses a highly vain and prideful personality. She thinks very highly of her own looks and abilities and is quick to react defensively if anyone implies she is not pretty or not young. This vanity often drives her actions, as she seeks validation and recognition from those she serves. Her primary motivation is to prove her worth to General Durahan and to successfully capture the main protagonist Genki and his friends, whose mysterious disc is of great interest to her master.

Throughout her appearances, Mum Mew demonstrates a cunning but fallible nature. In a notable episode, she devises a plan to capture the gang by issuing wanted posters offering a large bounty. However, she fails to anticipate the consequences when a hotel owner captures the group and demands payment. Unable to defeat him in combat and lacking the money, she is forced into a bank robbery scheme that inadvertently succeeds, but by the time she returns with the reward, the gang has already escaped. This episode highlights her determination and resourcefulness, but also her tendency to overestimate her own capabilities and to become entangled in complications.

Her key relationships include her close partnership with Gobi, who handles physical tasks while she handles planning. She is ultimately loyal to General Durahan, serving as his subordinate and carrying out his orders. She opposes Genki, Holly, and their monster companions, acting as an obstacle in their journey.

As for notable abilities, Mum Mew possesses the physical traits typical of her monster breed, such as agility and sharp claws, and she is capable of combat, though she is not portrayed as exceptionally powerful. Her primary strength lies in her strategic thinking and her role in commanding other monsters rather than in direct confrontation. Her development over the series is limited, as she remains a recurring antagonist whose schemes consistently fail, reinforcing her role as a comedic and persistent threat rather than a major villain.
