TV-Series
Description
Lince, also known by her German name Luchs, is one of the three Saber Dolls owned and commanded by Gerhardt von Faust, the authoritarian ruler of Gartland. As a marionette equipped with a Maiden Circuit, she possesses emotions and a distinct personality, setting her apart from ordinary androids. Her name is German for lynx, and she is the counterpart to Cherry, one of the protagonist Otaru Mamiya’s marionettes.
In terms of background, Lince was created and activated by Faust after he had already become consumed by his ambitions, unlike Tiger, who knew him from childhood. Because Lince only ever experienced Faust’s cold and ruthless side, her Maiden Circuit developed in the same direction, making her calculating, efficient, and devoid of warmth. She is fiercely loyal to Faust and will carry out any order without hesitation, valuing his approval above all else.
Lince’s personality is defined by cunning and precision. She is highly intelligent, capable of devising complex and deceptive strategies in moments. She rarely leaves anything to chance and ensures that every operation she undertakes is executed flawlessly. Among the Saber Dolls, she serves as the strategist and intelligence specialist. Despite her aloof and mysterious demeanor, she has been known to act in a silly manner on rare occasions, hinting at a more playful side that is otherwise suppressed by her conditioning.
Her motivations are centered on serving Faust and proving her worth to him. She genuinely loves him in her own way, but because she has never known kindness or affection from him, her devotion manifests as ruthless efficiency rather than overt emotion. She views Otaru and his marionettes as obstacles to be eliminated or outwitted, particularly Cherry, whose analytical abilities mirror her own.
In the story, Lince appears as an antagonist aligned with Faust’s plan to conquer the other city‑states. She is often deployed to sabotage or spy on the protagonists, using her advanced sensor systems and battlefield scanning to assess threats and find weaknesses. Her weapon of choice is a set of exploding throwing knives, which she can hurl with deadly accuracy. She engages in mental and tactical duels with Cherry, as both rely on anticipation and analysis rather than raw power.
Lince’s role highlights the contrast between Faust’s abusive treatment of his marionettes and Otaru’s nurturing approach. While she remains loyal to Faust throughout the primary conflict, her inability to develop beyond the cold persona he instilled in her underscores the tragic consequences of treating sentient beings as mere tools. After Faust’s defeat, she is eventually captured, being the last of the Saber Dolls to be subdued. In later series and OVAs, her character sees minor development as she interacts more with the other marionettes, but she never fully sheds her ingrained ruthlessness.
Her notable abilities include enhanced sensors that allow her to track and analyze opponents, exceptional speed and agility, and expert marksmanship with her explosive knives. She is also a skilled strategist, able to think several steps ahead and manipulate situations to her advantage. Physically, she has short blue hair and blue eyes, often partially obscured by her fringe, giving her a perpetually enigmatic appearance.
