Description
The character known as Pantha, more commonly called Panther, is one of the three Saber Dolls created to serve Faust, the ruler of Galtland. She is the third of Faust's Saber Dolls and is designed as the counterpart of Bloodberry, one of the protagonist marionettes. Like her fellow Saber Dolls, she is an android equipped with a maiden circuit that grants her genuine emotions, and her name continues the feline naming pattern used for Galtland's Saber Dolls, which are named after members of the cat family using German terms.
In terms of personality, Panther is the most ambitious of the three Dolls and is described as Faust's pit bull, always ready to defend his honor and pride at all costs. She is the most direct and aggressive member of the group, acting as its muscle and charging into battle while relying on her strength and an array of weapons. If something needs to be broken, destroyed, or killed, she is willing to handle it herself. She dislikes working as part of a team and prefers to fight without having to worry about protecting others, including her fellow Dolls Tiger and Luchs. Her loyalty to Faust is absolute; unlike Tiger, who regrets that she cannot restore Faust to a kinder nature, Panther never knew Faust before he became evil, so she serves the dictator unquestioningly and without regret.
Panther's motivations are centered entirely on her devotion to Faust. She carries out acts of destruction and violence on his behalf and serves as one of his principal enforcers in his campaign against the other territories. Within the story she is an antagonist who appears as part of Faust's forces. She is the second Saber Doll to be encountered, and early on she battles Lime before later facing off against Bloodberry, her direct counterpart, once Bloodberry is awakened. Panther is also the only Saber Doll to actually harm the protagonist Otaru, throwing him around like a rag doll, and that incident leads directly to the awakening of Cherry.
Her relationships reflect her combative and solitary nature. With Tiger and Luchs she is a reluctant teammate who would rather fight alone. Toward Faust she is unconditionally devoted, and her brutality is driven by her desire to uphold his standing. Against Bloodberry she has a fierce rivalry rooted in their mirrored roles and comparable strength. She treats Otaru and the marionettes of Japoness with hostility and violence. In later material, the three Saber Dolls are entrusted to Otaru so they can be educated and reformed, offering Panther a path beyond simple obedience, though she continues to appear alongside Faust when his ambitions resurface in the sequel series.
