Description
Babidi is an alien wizard and a primary antagonist who appears during the Majin Buu story arc. He is the son of the dark magician Bibidi, the original creator of the monstrous being Majin Buu. After Bibidi was killed, Babidi inherited his father's ambitions and magical power, setting out to complete his father's work by reviving the sealed Majin Buu.

In terms of personality, Babidi is defined by his arrogance, cruelty, and cowardice. He is utterly self-centered and views all other beings, including his most loyal followers, as disposable tools to be used and discarded once they have outlived their usefulness. He displays a sadistic glee when punishing or eliminating his underlings and shows no remorse for the suffering he causes, such as when he casually kills a family upon arriving on Earth or murders a man for being unable to provide an address. Despite his pretensions of being a great and powerful sorcerer, Babidi is physically weak and reveals himself to be a coward who panics and begs for his life when directly threatened. His primary motivation is to conquer the universe. He believes that by reviving and controlling Majin Buu, he can harness the creature's immense, destructive power to destroy all opposition and rule unchallenged.

Babidi's central role in the story is as the catalyst for the revival of Majin Buu. To achieve this, he travels to Earth during the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament. He uses his mind-control magic to command a group of followers, including the demon king Dabura, whom he tasks with gathering the immense energy required to break the seal on Buu's egg-shaped prison. His plan draws the attention of the Supreme Kai and the Earth's heroes, leading to a confrontation inside his hidden spaceship. Babidi attempts to stop them by pitting his warriors, such as the gravity-enhanced Pui Pui and the light-eating Yakon, against the heroes, but these efforts fail. Ultimately, he succeeds in turning the Saiyan Vegeta into a mind-controlled Majin soldier by exploiting the evil in his heart. The energy released from the subsequent battle between the possessed Vegeta and Goku provides the final power needed to fully resurrect Majin Buu.

Key relationships define Babidi's downfall. He considers the powerful demon king Dabura his most trusted right hand, but he ultimately betrays Dabura, feeding him to Buu once his usefulness ends. His relationship with Majin Buu is one of control and abuse. Babidi constantly belittles Buu and commands him to kill, all while threatening to reseal him in his prison if he disobeys. This treatment, contrasting with the cake and rewards offered by his father Bibidi, fosters Buu's resentment. While Babidi believes he is the master, Buu is merely a volatile weapon he cannot truly control. Babidi's other key victims include Vegeta, whom he successfully places under a spell, though Vegeta's immense pride allows him to resist being fully controlled. Throughout the story, Babidi does not undergo any positive development or redemption. He remains consistently cruel and arrogant, and his only significant change is his increasing panic and loss of control as Buu begins to defy him. His arc ends when the creature he sought to command finally rebels; Goku's encouragement prompts Buu to realize his own strength, leading Buu to strangle Babidi and kill him.

Babidi is notable for his magical abilities rather than his physical strength, as he is easily overpowered in direct combat, such as when Piccolo cuts him in half. His primary skill is a form of mind control that allows him to enslave any being with even a trace of evil in their heart, which also unlocks their hidden potential and brands them with a distinct M symbol on their forehead. He can also teleport himself and others, often moving fights to other planets like the high-gravity world of Zoon to give his minions an advantage. For defense, Babidi can create a powerful magical barrier. This shield is remarkably durable, strong enough to protect him from the full force of Vegeta's self-destruction attack. He also possesses other abilities such as long-range observation via a crystal ball, telepathy to communicate with and send visions to the entire planet, and the knowledge of the spell required to seal Majin Buu away.
