TV-Series
Description
Jimmy Kudo, known in the original Japanese version as Shinichi Kudo, is the protagonist of the long-running mystery series. He is a highly talented high school student whose life is irrevocably changed when he is transformed into a child, forcing him to live under the alias Conan Edogawa.

Background-wise, Jimmy is a sixteen or seventeen-year-old student at Teitan High School in Tokyo. He is the only child of Yusaku Kudo, a world-famous mystery novelist, and Yukiko Kudo, a celebrated former actress. His parents currently reside in the United States, leaving Jimmy to live largely independently in the family home in Japan. From a very young age, Jimmy displayed an extraordinary aptitude for deduction, earning him a reputation as a brilliant young detective and the informal title of the "Great Detective of the East".

Regarding personality, Jimmy is characterized by his sharp intellect, confidence, and a strong, unwavering sense of justice. He is typically calm, analytical, and logical, believing that every crime can be solved through reason and that there is always only one truth. While he is often cool and composed, he can be prone to moments of impulsiveness and cockiness, particularly when a case challenges his abilities. Despite his genius-level intellect, he is notably shy and somewhat clumsy when it comes to expressing his feelings for his childhood friend, Ran Mouri, often becoming flustered or tongue-tied around her. As Conan, he adopts a convincing childlike facade, using a high-pitched voice and feigning innocence to avoid suspicion, though he will occasionally drop his guard and reveal his mature thought process.

His primary motivation stems from a traumatic event at the Tropical Land amusement park. While on a date with Ran, he secretly followed two suspicious men in black from a criminal syndicate known as the Black Organization. After being discovered, he was attacked and forcibly poisoned with an experimental drug called APTX 4869. The poison was intended to kill him, but a rare side effect caused his body to shrink to the size of a young child rather than die. His main goal is to dismantle the Black Organization and find a cure for the poison so he can return to his original body and protect those he cares about from being harmed by the syndicate.

In the story, Jimmy's role is that of the hidden protagonist. To conceal his identity and keep Ran and others safe, he adopts the pseudonym Conan Edogawa, a name derived from mystery authors Arthur Conan Doyle and Edogawa Ranpo. He moves into the home of Ran and her father, Kogoro Mouri, a private detective who runs a small agency. Jimmy believes that information about the Black Organization might filter through the agency's cases. Since no one takes a child seriously, he uses a variety of gadgets invented by his neighbor, Professor Hiroshi Agasa, to secretly solve the cases that come to the agency. His most common method involves using a tranquilizer watch to knock out Kogoro and then a voice-changing bow tie to impersonate his voice, leading the public to dub the sleeping Kogoro as the "Sleeping Kogoro". Despite his efforts, Ran frequently suspects that Conan is actually Jimmy, forcing him to create elaborate deceptions to maintain his cover.

Several key relationships define his journey. His relationship with Ran Mouri is a central emotional thread. They have been best friends since kindergarten, and while Jimmy is secretly in love with her, he is often too proud or shy to admit it directly. The pain of deceiving her is a constant struggle. Professor Hiroshi Agasa is his closest ally and confidant, being the first person to learn of his condition. The professor provides not only emotional support but also the crucial gadgets that allow Conan to function as a detective. Heiji Hattori is a rival high school detective from Osaka. After a few confrontations, Heiji deduces Conan's true identity and becomes one of his most trusted friends and allies, often aiding him in investigations. Another significant ally is Ai Haibara, a former member of the Black Organization and the creator of the APTX 4869 poison. She also took the drug to escape the organization, and her body shrank as well. She now lives with Professor Agasa and assists Jimmy, having created a prototype antidote that allows him to temporarily regain his adult form.

Throughout the series, Jimmy shows subtle but clear development. His initial confidence as a detective, which sometimes bordered on arrogance, is tempered by the immense responsibility and frustration of living as a child. His relationship with Ran also evolves; after years of unspoken feelings, he finally confesses his love to her during a case in London, which marks a significant milestone in his personal life.

As a detective, Jimmy possesses a formidable array of notable abilities. His deductive reasoning is his greatest asset, allowing him to observe minute details and piece together complex chains of events that others often miss. He is a polymath with vast knowledge, from forensic science and literature to history and multiple foreign languages, including English and French. Physically, he is an exceptional athlete, with a particular talent for soccer; his powerful and precise kicks, amplified by his custom-made "power-enhancing kick shoes," are his primary method of incapacitating criminals as Conan. He is also proficient in other sports, such as skiing and skating, and is a skilled marksman, having learned to fire a pistol at a shooting range his father took him to as a child. In addition to his physical and mental prowess, he relies on Professor Agasa's inventions, which include the voice-changing bow tie, the tranquilizer watch, the super sneakers, and a solar-powered skateboard for high-speed chases.
