Description
Gemini Sunrise, born June 21, 1911, in Texas to mixed Japanese-American heritage, shares her body with her twin sister Geminine, a split personality condition described as "two hearts in one body." Unaware of Geminine during childhood, only her master Mifune recognized the dual presence during training. He instructed her in Japanese swordsmanship and culture, fostering her deep respect for samurai traditions. She owned a white horse named Rally (or Larry), kept in her New York apartment and occasionally ridden through the city.
In 1926, the demon Ranmaru attacked Texas seeking the Book of Five Rings, resulting in Mifune's sacrificial death protecting the artifact. Honoring his final wish, Gemini departed for New York City in 1927 with Rally. Her journey, documented in *Sakura Taisen V: Episode 0*, involved allying with Brad Basileus and Chamber Westwood to protect the magically gifted Juanita Cushing from the sorcerer Patrick Hamilton. After Hamilton's defeat, Gemini proceeded alone to New York.
Renting an apartment in Greenwich Village, she worked as a cleaner at the Littlelip Theater. Her cheerful yet clumsy "country hick" demeanor made adapting difficult, causing frequent depression. This emotional strain triggered Geminine's emergence as the vigilante "Masked Woman," who fought criminals and demons using a katana and revolver while riding Rally, leaving Gemini with no memory of these episodes.
Gemini eventually discovered Geminine's existence and her quest for vengeance against Ranmaru. Despite Gemini's attempts to dissuade her, Geminine persisted, clashing with Shinjiro Taiga and battling Ranmaru. During a robot attack on Fifth Avenue, Geminine surfaced publicly, revealing herself to the Star Division. Shinjiro later convinced Geminine that Mifune would reject her vengeful path, leading her to relinquish her revenge, entrust Shinjiro with Gemini's well-being, and recede into dormancy.
As a Star Division member, Gemini piloted the orange mechanized unit "Rodeo Star" and wielded a Gun Barrel Sword. She bore the Five-Ring mark (location varies: lower back or buttock), identifying her as one of the Five-Ring Warriors destined to combat the Demon Lord. In optional story paths where Shinjiro pursues her romantically, Gemini is revealed as the reincarnation of the Nameless Nun, a historical Five-Ring Warrior who sacrificed herself to seal the demon Nobunaga after a romance with Shinjiro's past life, Koya Hijiri.
In the OVA *Sakura Wars: New York*, set months later, Gemini continued serving in the Star Division under Shinjiro's command. She participated in missions protecting New York from new threats, including an assault on the Statue of Liberty, while preparing for the theater's production of "Cleopatra."
Gemini has long red hair tied in a low ponytail, blue eyes, and stands 155 cm (5'1") tall. Her typical attire includes an orange cropped jacket, yellow shirt, orange denim skirt, brown bolster belt, orange boots, and a brown Stetson hat. Her Star Division uniform is white and orange.
