TV-Series
Description
Chianti is a member of the Black Organization, a secretive criminal syndicate, where she works as a professional sniper in the assassination division. Her codename, like many of her colleagues, is derived from a type of wine, specifically the Chianti region of Italy. She was introduced as a new member of the organization during the confrontation with FBI agent Shuichi Akai.
In appearance, Chianti has short, light-colored hair, often depicted as blond or brownish-red, and her most distinctive feature is a tattoo of a butterfly's wing on her left eyelid. She typically wears dark, gothic-style clothing, such as black leather dresses and a choker, and is often seen with heavy eye shadow.
Chianti's personality is marked by a wild, ruthless, and aggressive nature. She is portrayed as an assassin who takes pleasure in killing and becomes excited by the act of targeting a victim through her rifle scope. She is notably impatient and has been reprimanded by her superior, Gin, for considering shooting at innocent bystanders out of sheer boredom. Her language is consistently harsh and abusive, and she displays a high level of pride in her skills. While she follows orders from Gin, she does not seem interested in currying favor with him or other superiors. Her loyalty to the organization appears absolute, with no hints of potential betrayal, unlike some other operatives.
Her primary role within the Black Organization is that of a sniper, often deployed for long-range assassinations. She is usually partnered with another sniper, Korn, and the two operate together on missions, similar to how Gin works with Vodka. Her most significant relationship is with her partner, Korn, with whom she works closely and shares a good rapport. She is also implied to have had a close relationship with a fallen colleague, Calvados, another sniper. She harbors an intense hatred for the operative known as Vermouth, whom she blames for Calvados's death. This animosity is a key part of her character, and she has expressed a desire to kill Vermouth, though she is prevented from doing so by orders from the organization's leadership. Despite her volatility, she is shown to have a cordial relationship with fellow operative Kir.
Chianti's skills center on her proficiency with sniper rifles, particularly the H&K PSG1. She is established as an excellent marksman, capable of precise shooting within a range of 600 yards. However, the narrative makes it clear that she is not quite a match for the FBI agent Shuichi Akai, whose effective range is significantly greater. She also demonstrates competent driving skills, as she frequently drives her own blue Dodge Viper sports car during missions.
Throughout the series, Chianti participates in several major operations, including the planned assassination of politician Yasutero Domon and the confrontation with FBI agents during the Kir transport case. In the film The Raven Chaser, she is responsible for fatally shooting the rogue agent Irish and later attempts, unsuccessfully, to eliminate Conan Edogawa. Her background and abilities are further contextualized by the author's intention for her butterfly tattoo, which was conceptually meant to accompany a line about her butterfly flapping its wings when someone dies, though this was not fully realized in the story.
