Description
Jirokichi Suzuki is a recurring character from the manga and anime series Detective Conan. He is introduced as the 72-year-old senior advisor of the Suzuki Financial Group, a position he holds in a semi-retired capacity, treating it largely as a pastime. Born on November 29, he is the paternal uncle of series regular Sonoko Suzuki, being the older brother of Sonoko's father, Shiro Suzuki. Despite his advanced age, Jirokichi maintains a lifestyle and ambition that defy his years.

Jirokichi's personality is defined by an insatiable craving for glory and a boundless appetite for adventure. He is an obsessive glory hound who has spent much of his life seeking challenges to conquer and newspaper front pages to grace. Even well into his seventies, he remains physically and mentally vigorous, approaching every new undertaking with the fiery passion of a much younger man. His competitive nature is immense, and he harbors a specific and deeply personal grudge against the master thief Kaitou Kid. This animosity began when a headline about one of Kid's heists displaced Jirokichi's own latest adventure story from the coveted front-page spot, a slight he has never forgotten or forgiven. While he resents anyone who outdoes him, he possesses an underlying layer of silent respect for those who demonstrate talents superior to his own, a trait he has shown toward both Conan Edogawa and Kaitou Kid.

His primary motivation in the story is to capture Kaitou Kid. He views this not merely as an act of vengeance but as the ultimate achievement, the crowning jewel of his long and storied career. He pours the considerable resources of his family's financial empire into this singular goal. This includes purchasing rare and legendary gemstones, which he then publicly displays as bait, and designing elaborate, high-technology traps and secure locations intended to finally snare the elusive thief. He often challenges Kid directly through newspaper advertisements, turning their confrontations into public spectacles.

Within the narrative, Jirokichi serves as a primary instigator for many of the confrontations with Kaitou Kid. His extravagant challenges provide the setting for numerous heists, bringing together other key characters. He frequently enlists the help of renowned detective Kogoro Mouri, which invariably brings the sharp-minded Conan Edogawa into the fray. Jirokichi acknowledges Conan's superior intellect and his knack for foiling Kid, even giving him the grudgingly respectful nickname of the Kid Killer. However, this creates a secondary source of frustration for Jirokichi, as Conan's interference often steals the spotlight and the coveted newspaper headlines for himself. Jirokichi's relationships are central to his role. His rivalry with Kaitou Kid is the driving force of his actions, though it is marked by a strange, unspoken mutual respect. He works alongside Inspector Ginzo Nakamori, though their differing methods and desires for credit often lead to friction. His closest companion is his loyal dog, a Great Dane named Lupin, who serves as his best friend, constant bodyguard, and confidant.

While Jirokichi shows little emotional development in his core personality, his role has expanded to become a consistent catalyst for major Kid-related story arcs. His determination never wavers, and he continues to devise new and more ambitious schemes, such as constructing the world's largest airship or creating specialized display chambers, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to his goal. The wealth and influence he commands make him one of the most financially powerful figures in the series' setting.

Jirokichi's notable abilities are as impressive as his ambitions. Despite his age, he has achieved success in numerous extreme sports and adventures, including sailing championships, rally racing, and piloting a plane solo around the world. He is an accomplished motorcyclist, famously riding a customized 1500cc Harley-Davidson, and is also skilled in piloting aircraft and skiing. Beyond his physical prowess, he possesses a creative, if often impractical, engineering mind, designing intricate security systems and traps specifically for capturing Kaitou Kid. He is also a discerning collector with an eye for rare and historically significant gems. His loyal dog, Lupin, is also trained to assist and protect him.
