Description
Jenny Scarlet is a character from the 1990 Japanese anime series. She is the younger sister of Will and Winifred Scarlet and a cousin of the protagonist, Robin Hood. In the original Japanese version of the show, her name is Barbara.
Following the destruction of the Huntington family castle by the order of Baron Alwyn, Jenny, along with Robin and her siblings, is forced to flee from persecution. They find refuge in Sherwood Forest, where they later encounter and ally with a group of bandits led by Little John. As the youngest of the cousins, Jenny becomes a member of the core group living in the forest and actively participates in their community.
As the youngest among her siblings and cousin, Jenny is portrayed as a young girl with a more innocent and dependent disposition. In one instance during the group's early days in Sherwood Forest, while facing a shortage of supplies, she is noted to be especially hungry, highlighting her vulnerability and the direct impact the group's hardships have on her.
Her primary role in the story is as a member of the main supporting cast. She is part of the found family of outlaws and villagers resisting Baron Alwyn's oppressive rule. While the older characters like Robin, Will, and Little John often engage in direct conflict with the Baron's soldiers, Jenny is frequently depicted as one of the younger members of the group who needs protection. She is often in the company of other younger or non-combatant characters, such as Marian and Friar Tuck.
Jenny's key relationships are defined by her family ties. She is the younger sister of Will and Winifred, and her cousin is the leader of their group, Robin Hood. Her security is directly tied to the success of Robin's leadership and the safety of the Sherwood Forest community. Her relationship with other members of the group, such as Marian, is likely one of a younger charge under the care of older companions, as seen when Friar Tuck brings provisions for the three of them.
While the series does not provide extensive detail on a deep personal arc for Jenny, simply by being the youngest of the fleeing nobles, she personifies the group's innocence and what they are fighting to protect. The group's efforts in securing food and safety are often, by extension, for the benefit of its most vulnerable members, including Jenny. An episode in the series is titled "Jenny's Tale," which suggests a focus on her perspective or a story involving her directly. There is no widely available information on any notable abilities or specialized skills specific to Jenny Scarlet.
