Description
Captain Napolipolita is a captain in the Alpha Cygnan space navy, hailing from the all-female Lepton Kingdom of Alpha Cygni. Her most prominent physical features include striking green hair and a pair of wraparound coolshades, and she maintains a dramatic facade with impeccably tailored attire, typically a trench coat or a swirling cloak. This composed and imposing image, which initially leads Earth observers to mistake her gender, quickly shatters when she is faced with adversity. Her primary weakness is a severe addiction to alcohol, a dependency cultivated during her lengthy space voyages, and she unravels completely when deprived of a drink.
Captain Napolipolita's defining mission is a sixteen-year odyssey across the universe to locate C-ko Kotobuki, the lost Fourth Princess of the Fifth Queen, who arrived on Earth as an infant in a spaceship that the inhabitants of Graviton City mistook for a meteor. Upon identifying C-ko, her goal shifts from searching to retrieval, and she comes to Earth with the intention of reclaiming the princess for their home world. Her role in the story is that of an antagonist, though her interests often run parallel to and conflict with those of the main characters, A-ko Magami and B-ko Daitokuji.
Her mission ultimately fails, culminating in a crash-landing on Earth after a confrontation with A-ko and B-ko, leaving her spaceship impaled and precariously balanced atop Graviton City's Military Command Tower. Stranded on Earth and facing immense repair costs, she demonstrates a degree of resourcefulness by converting her damaged ship into a massive commercial venture: a luxurious 30,000-room hotel complex that includes a shopping mall, amusement park, and casino. Despite this brave face presented to the human population, she is miserable from homesickness and longs only to return to the Lepton Kingdom. This financial desperation forces her and her crew to sometimes resort to public begging for repair donations.
Captain Napolipolita's leadership style is a blend of grandiose posturing and underlying incompetence, made worse by her alcohol dependency in crises. Her character functions partly as an affectionate parody of the stoic space captain Captain Harlock, evident in her ship's design and her overall aesthetic. Her key relationship is with her subordinate, Agent D, a fellow Alpha Cygnan who handles reconnaissance and combat while Napolipolita manages broader strategic and entrepreneurial efforts. Her development across the story sees her transition from a seemingly formidable alien commander to a dysfunctional and stranded captain, yet her primary goal of returning home remains unchanged. While she commands a spaceship and leads her crew, her notable abilities lie less in personal combat and more in strategic management, as seen in her hotel enterprise, and her drive is fueled by a desperate need to fund her return voyage.
