TV-Series
Description
María is a young orphan girl who appears in the series as a minor but emotionally significant character. She comes from the island of Mahal in the Atlantic, where her father worked as an engineer at a power plant. When the Neo-Atlantean forces invaded the island, her parents resisted and attempted to flee, but they were both killed during the escape. María was the sole survivor and was later discovered by Nadia and Jean, who took her under their protection. She is about four years old, with noticeable freckles and short orange hair. Her personality is sweet, innocent, and somewhat precocious for her age; she often displays a maturity beyond her years, especially in how she comforts others and endures hardship. However, she also retains childlike traits, such as a dislike of studying and a tendency to refer to adult women as "old lady" in a blunt manner. Her primary motivation is to stay safe and remain with the people who care for her, and she looks up to Nadia as a kind of older sister figure. María does not have special abilities, but she possesses a gentle and perceptive nature, often serving as a moral anchor for the group. She forms an especially close bond with the lion cub King, and the two are frequently seen together. Throughout the story, María does not undergo dramatic personal growth because of her young age, but her presence reinforces the stakes of the conflict, as she represents the innocent victims of the Neo-Atlantean aggression. Her role in the narrative is to evoke empathy and to remind the main characters of what they are fighting to protect. She interacts warmly with Jean and Nadia, and even the initially antagonistic Grandis gang eventually shows care for her wellbeing. María's resilience and optimism in the face of loss contribute to the emotional depth of the series without altering the primary plot.
