Description
Nataku is an androgynous clone created from the genetic material of Kazuki Tojo, the deceased granddaughter of the president of Tojo Pharmaceuticals, and her father Masaki. Designed as a weapon with extreme psychic ability, Nataku is classified as a Dragon of Earth in the conflict that determines humanity's fate. The character is sent by Chairman Tojo to retrieve the sacred sword known as the Shinken, which the chairman intends to destroy so that Nataku will not become entangled in the events of the Promised Day. During this mission, Nataku mortally wounds Kyogo Monou, the father of Fuma and Kotori, who was trying to protect the blade.

Nataku possesses a stoic, emotionless exterior but experiences profound inner turmoil. The character is haunted by residual memories of the previous existence as Kazuki, which creates a deep emotional bond with Fuma Monou because Fuma strongly resembles the person Kazuki cared for most: her father. This attachment leads Nataku to follow Fuma unquestioningly. Despite appearing detached and methodical, Nataku is deeply introspective, struggles to express feelings, and displays fierce loyalty and protectiveness toward those who are considered close. The character’s thinking is logical and detail-oriented, with a strong sense of duty that guides actions even in difficult circumstances.

Motivations shift over the course of the story. Initially driven by orders from Chairman Tojo and later by devotion to Fuma, Nataku begins to question the larger conflict and seeks autonomy and self-understanding. The relationship with the creator, Dr. Ogata, adds complexity: the character feels a conflicted mix of loyalty and a desire for independence, and the traumatic memory of a sister figure who was killed by the same project deepens the psychological struggle.

Nataku’s role in the story is primarily as a formidable ally of the Dragons of Earth. The character steals the Shinken early in the narrative, a pivotal event that sets the Monou family’s tragedy in motion. Later, Nataku becomes a key combatant in the apocalyptic battle, wielding immense psychic power and the ability to transform into a dragon. This transformation ability makes the character a shikigami-like entity with otherworldly strength, capable of devastating physical and psychic attacks.

Development is marked by a gradual emergence from a mere tool into a being with personal desires. The trauma of past memories, the bond with Fuma, and interactions with other characters push Nataku toward a more nuanced understanding of human emotions and the meaning of choice. By the later stages, the character grapples with identity beyond the role of a weapon and begins to assert individual will, though the story leaves this arc incomplete alongside the overall narrative of X.

Notable abilities include extreme psychic power, which manifests in telepathy, telekinesis, and other mental attacks. The dragon transformation is a signature ability, granting immense physical power and a fearsome presence. As a clone, Nataku possesses an androgynous appearance and an artificial origin that sets this character apart from naturally born fighters. The combination of high-level combat capability, psychic strength, and the emotional depth of a being struggling with inherited memories makes Nataku a complex figure in the series.
